This is my 3rd time at the Iberostar hotel, the first 2 times, I went to Iberostar Selection Praia do Forte 2x and now the IberoStar Praia do Forte.
I am quite disappointed this time , there were ups and downs and I don't plan to come back anymore.
Let me start with the good things and then I can explain why the poor rating:
1- The staff - the staff is great at restaurants, pool, reception and concierge. They go beyond their roles and are genuinely happy to chat to customers and help. I wish they could wear summer clothes at the pool, it made me feel sorry looking at them wearing long sleeve shirts and trousers at such hot weather. They are just sweating constantly and it is not fair. 2- bedroom and cleanness - I had an ocean view room. Upgraded to the presidential suit, the bedroom is beautiful and the views are stunning. It was nicely clean. 3- the pool - is lovely provided you save your seat early . Just like any hotel to be honest so not an exception. 4- drinks - were nice, usual caipirinhas , and lovely Brazilian gin and tonics with passion fruit. 5- Exceptional teppanyaki experience- it was the best food experience we had in the hotel
Now the BAD points which to me were a big NO and the reason why I would not return.
FOOD - I really don't know where to start on how bad it is . My first dinner, I decided to go for this beautiful fish stew to find myself chewing mussels debris, mud and seaweed. That was the most disgusting experience of my life. it was like hair, I took the whole thing out of my mouth to show to the staff and complain, I asked that to be showed to the chef. However to my surprise the chef response was that it was quite normal to have that kind of thing on mussels!! This was shocking to me. I could not believe on what I heard and didn't even want to waste time to talk to the chef, in my view that whole dish should have been put aside to avoid poisoning issues. Yes, it is normal to be washed out , not to be served. That was unforgivable. It is a shame that I didn;'t take a picture of it to show here.
The rest of the meals were really average and nothing exceptional.. nothing compared to my previous experiences at the Iberostar and defintely not 4* or 5* . I had a nice benchmark before set up by the same chain this which is why I think it is fair to say that it is not worth what they charge. The food was repetitive every day and the fish just looked off. It didn't look fresh or cold. We ended up eating a lot of pizza every day which was actually nice.
Finally, we booked the sea food restaurant for our final stay on Good Friday So disappointing again, to summarize I will post a picture here of the potato that was served on my plate to give you an idea. And this was only 1 out of 4 pieces, so I can't believe they served potato with large black parts on it, I usually would cut it out. We ordered the octopus that was hard and not tasty at all. I was expecting they would have bacalhau, the typical Cod brazilian meal for Easter or other options but it was a quite limited fish menu. They had buffet for starters which was quite limited and the cod cakes were fried but frozen inside. Another issue for potential food poisoning in my view.
Anyway, at least we had good company. We were a group of families from Brazil, UK and Australia and I will not recommend this hotel to...
Read moreThis was my first stay at Iberostar and probably the last. I went there with my my sister and my dad to celebrate my birthday and while this was my first time, it was my dad’s 4th time in the resort and my sister’s second time and they both think that the hotel and overall service declined significantly this time.
The main restaurant is very hot and there is no fans nor AC, which makes it very hard for the guests to enjoy their food. Another issue I see with that is that the food is probably not safe in such hot environment since you can see the cheese melting on the table.
They also have these other themed and “fancier” restaurants but the food there is not good. My dad and sister said that it used to be good but neither of us liked it. The worst one is definitely the Japanese.
Another thing that was quite annoying was that they noticed that it was my birthday and they told me that they were going to send me a surprise in our room the next day. I never received anything. I asked for it the following day, they said again that they would send it but never did.
At some point when I was booking a spot to go to the themed restaurants, this staff told me that she was going to gift me a massage. Of course I said yes but then when I came the next day to book it, she told me that I needed to do a tour in this other resort that they own and that I had to bring my ID and a credit card, but there was no massage included, if I did the “tour” they would let me use the spa which is not what she promised me. So be aware of that because they will try to upsell you.
And lastly, the main reason why I’m writing this review is because in our 3rd day in the resort (out of 5), my dad had a very bad food poisoning. It was so bad that he stayed in the hotel room for the rest of his time there. And we only ate the food served in the resort, we didn’t go anywhere else which is very concerning. When my dad got back home and went to a doctor, he found out that he had an infection and he was even admitted to the hospital. I had a flight booked on that day and had to reschedule it because I was very worried about him. He is good now but that was such a scary experience, especially considering the cost that we paid to stay at Iberostar. We will never go back.
Ps: it’s funny how the hotel staff asks you to give them a 5 stars review on Google on a daily basis. They will pretty much force you to do so, and...
