Have spent 3 nights at this pousada as part of my honeymoon. Vale do Capão is a lovely and remote corner of the world, and I couldn’t have wished for a more pleasant and relaxed experience than staying here.||||The owners are very chilled and accommodating “ex-hippies” who have built this place over the years, making improvements little by little. The grounds are very big, and comprise a fruit and herb garden, where they grow most of the ingredients used in the restaurant. There’s also a viewpoint, a nice swimming pool area, saunas, lounge, tv lounge, and other “spa” facilities. Some of the spa activities are free, like the foot spa, others are chargeable like the saunas, japanese bath or massages.||||The area is an ideal base for hikes which can be very easy (two nearby waterfalls), or more demanding, like the Cachoeira da Fumaça (a must-see) and the 3-day Paty Valley trek.||||The room was cozy, with a fireplace, funny decoration (fairies, dream catchers and others), minibar with very honest prices, and a ceiling fan, but no aircon (temperatures at night are quite fresh). Toiletries provided are fairly basic, and we’d often run out of their home made soap, so you’re advised to bring your own.||||Breakfast is amazing, with a big spread of fruits, juices, home made cakes and even a cook grilling your toasts and making tapioca. Breakfast is fully vegetarian. The restaurant is also open to outside guests for dinner (and maybe lunch?). The food served is bland and uninspired, and frankly overpriced. We ate there every night because we didn’t fancy driving into town, but I can hardly imagine anyone coming from outside for their food.||||If it’s a starry night, I’d recommend driving to the top of the hill, where the viewpoint is. Amazing view. If not, you may want to use the communal home theater as there is a big dvd selection (which you can also borrow and watch in your room).||||If driving from Salvador (highly recommended as there is only one weekly flight to/from Salvador, and a bus ride takes 7h vs 4-5h drive on mostly very good roads - watch the speed bumps around towns!) make sure you print the instructions from their website as it takes you via some back roads with no truck traffic, shaving a couple of hours off the trip. I highly recommed having your own car when visiting Chapada Diamantina as transportation is scarce and expensive and all attractions are distant from each other.||||All in all a great and relaxing base from which to explore this...
Read moreVale do Capão is a remote and magical valley in Chapada Diamantina that attracts all types of nature-lovers and soul-searching people. Villa Lagoa das Cores is the place to stay surrounded by nature, with a confortable charming resting place after the long walks through the valley.||||The rooms are beautifully decorated, the hotel also features an alternative spa, meditation rooms, a temple and all kinds of spiritual and mystical experiences.||||The only downsides are: 1) the internet, although wifi and free, is slow, because there's no broadband available in the area, and the 2) shower temperature is hard to control: the central heater is far from the rooms, so, after waiting a while to warm the water, it gets too hot, than suddenly gets cold again.||||To be fair, Lagoa das Cores offers much more than a traveller could expect from such a remote and alternative place like Vale do Capão, including a great restaurant that uses organic and locally-grown fruits and vegetables. The owners are gentle and attentive, the room ammenites are great.||||It's a little far from the village (2km), but it's worth the isolation: in a clear night, the sky is simply fantastic, easily comparable to the famous Atacama skies. If you're not with your own car, you can call a local taxi. We'd certainly...
Read moreAs a Brazilian resident I have to confess that I made a big mistake during years. For me, Chapada Diamantina was only Lençois village, a center for trekking in western Bahia. I have just spent now 2 days in the canyon itself, in Vale do Capão, easily reachable by bus from Salvador (line Salvador-Palmeiras) and then a short trip by jeep always available at bus arrival. And There, I discovered what Vania & Marcos created: a fabulous and mystic little resort, with their own production of food, chemneys in some rooms, sauna, open air ofuro, delicious bio restaurant. They provide all necessary guides for climbing around , but they also provide their sweetness ans totally zen approach of this wild...
