Read moreI went to the remote village of Corumbau with my girlfriend hoping to unwind from the stress of daily life – something I hadn’t been able to accomplish for a very long time. This place is a fantastic escape from it all, and the bonus is that it’s in an utterly beautiful location!||||The guest house is in the middle of a small fishing village, sandwiched between a spectacular beach and a huge river, complete with mangroves. The village is friendly and quiet, and completely genuine (it’s not touristy), and the whole area is teeming with wildlife.||||Being in a hot climate, the guest house is quite open and airy, and with the sea breeze and the mangroves it’s surprisingly cool. However, during our stay we were in the middle of mosquito season, so bring some mosquito repellent.||||Being so open, and since the whole area is sandy, the house tends to get quite sandy too, but it is cleaned daily so it's not such a big problem. Mosquito nets are provided for the beds so you don't get bitten all night!||||Getting to the guest house is both difficult and adventurous in its own right due to the remoteness, however there are a number of options available, even including helicopter from Porto Seguro if you have a bit of extra cash spare! On the way there we took a combination of car, ferry, dune buggy and kayak.||||On the way back we realised that the most expensive part of the trip was the flight to Brazil, which wasn’t really all that expensive from Belgium in the first place, so we decided to take a small six-seater plane back to Porto Seguro. Ultimately once you’re there you won’t be spending your money like you would in a resort.||||My only regret is that the two weeks we spent there just weren’t enough – I didn’t want to leave; I had managed to unwind and de-stress so quickly there.||||Check out photos of the area taken during my trip at:...
Read moreIt cannot be easy to create an environment of extraordinary simplicity where everything functions with complete ease and one feels a sense of complete contentment.||||But that is exactly what Martine Renwart has managed in Corumbau, where her three room pousada has an atmosphere of total calm while providing fine accommodation and undoubtedly the best food in this beautiful spot. Overlooking what must be one of Brazil's most beautiful beaches, stretching for many kilometers and protected from surfing waves by an endless coral reef, staying at Lion de Tour is like being invited to be a guest at an exceptional private home but without any of the formality that would entail. You can just do nothing, wander along the beach, admire the flocks of white birds, lounge in comfortable beach chairs and read those books you have wanted to read for months. Or if you like Martine and her excellent staff, presided over by the wonderful Dadá, can organize excursions, get you fresh lobsters for dinner or make sure you have a perfect coconut drink on the beach.||||It is a paradise, nothing...
