Pousada Maracabana Spa — Hotel in Região Geográfica Imediata do Recife

I traveled with my wife to Brazil for the World Cup. It was an incredible experience until we stayed at Pousada Maracabana. It ruined the end of our vacation because my wife and I both got sick from staying in a dirty, decaying property.||||Trickery: We booked the room through a reputable booking website. We were shocked when we got there because the property looked nothing like what Pousada Maracabana showcased on this booking website. Actually it couldn't look any different. They staged the property and took photos to make it look like something it isn't. Concerned with our experience we spoke to the online booking company and they told us that the property adds their own photos and it is not something they control. I sent them our photos to show them the drastic differences and they agreed. I don't think it is okay to trick people when they spend money, time and energy to be there. ||||Room itself: Stunk! Literally. The room had black mold in the AC units. After one night of staying there we woke up with a cough and sore throat. The night prior we asked if they had another room we can sleep in (hoping they all wouldn't be as bad as ours). Unfortunately because it was the World Cup they were sold out. Finally we went downstairs and told them the room was not inhabitable and it needed to be cleaned. They told us they understood and gave us cleaning supplies (which looked like toilet cleaner) and a rag.||||I'm not sure how this property has such good reviews. This place is literally the dirtiest place I have ever stayed. I'm in shock that it has so many good reviews. I feel like the positive reviews have to be false.||||Let's start with the smell. The hotel smells like it is rotting from the inside out and that is probably because it is. There was black mold in our room and all over the property (you can see by our photos). It was unbearable. We slept with scarves over our mouths and then eventually slept outside on the balcony. Staying there literally made me sick.||||Additionally, the key broke in our safe because it was made poorly. They called in a locksmith and then tried to charge us for it.||||Overall no sense of customer service, no cleanliness and was a sore spot on our vacation in Brazil. ||||We checked out as soon as possible and as we were checking out another couple was checking out early as well.
