First, be aware that it rains all the time in Ubatuba (which is why they call it "Uba-Chuva; "chuva" means rain in Portuguese.) We knew that going in, so it wasn't the constant rain that bothered us, as it is still warm enough to swim in the ocean during light rain. However, when it downpours, as if often does, you usually have to leave the beach. The issue we had was that at Kaliman, there is nothing to do when it rains. As a hotel located in a place where it's known to rain all the time, the LEAST they could do is have an area for guests to hang out (besides the overpriced restaurant) AND have working wifi. The wifi almost never worked; they said it was because of the rain, which is a common excuse for poor wifi in Brazil. So, if you need wifi for work, it's a problem. This place calls itself a "resort" and as such, they should have a common room for relaxing, and some activities/game room for adults (not just a child's room) -- otherwise, it's a not a "resort" but rather just a pousada. It's location IS right on the beach, and they do offer chairs/umbrellas, and the beach is gorgeous. But they do NOT offer beach towels!!!! which is another way they are NOT a resort. Lastly, be aware that NOTHING dries here, and this "resort" has no accommodations to dry clothes and towels in the standard rooms. They do have an outdoor hanging thing, but when it rains all the time, that's obviously useless. This place is damp all the time, do to being in the Atlantic Rainforest, and a "resort" should be better equipped to help guests dry their items, such as with an indoor drying option. Just to be clear: We didn't mind the rain. We minded the price we paid for this "resort" which is not our definition of resort. Being located right on the beach does NOT make you a resort; it's your hotel facilities that make you a resort. Also, be aware that the restaurant is extremely overpriced, and the food is average. Unfortunately, all the restaurants in this town serve the exact same average food at the exact same ridiculous prices. Even the seafood -- which should have been amazing --...
Read moreOverall very disappointed. Security was on site within eye sight of beach entry and my property was stolen after just minutes of walking to the water. The property has cameras but it's my assumption they don't actually work since they would never show us the camera footage of that time. They made an excuse that the person was not in who would have access. We asked them to contact us once video was reviewed. We never heard back from them. I understand it's my responsibility to keep my things protected. But if the security person is right there then what happens when they are not? I didn't feel safe after since they made it seem like it's a normal thing that happens. I won't ever go back to this...
