I am not sure how to put into words our experience at Hotel Fazenda Dona Carolina. It was… breathtaking. Almost 200 acres of beautiful grounds with a lake, hiking trails, kayaks, ziplines, and incredible food. ||When we arrived on an early Friday afternoon, our room wasn’t ready, but they made sure that we were able to take advantage of the grounds and the food offerings. Once we got our room, we were charmed by the beautiful room and the view of the Brazilian countryside. ||While we were there, we spent a lot of time at the pool. It’s a large pool and it’s heated, so even though the temperatures were between 70 and 82, we were always comfortable in the pool. Their poolside service was also amazing. Everyone was so accommodating, even though we didn’t speak Portuguese and very few of the staff spoke English. It was actually fun when I would use my translate app and they would help me pronounce words I didn’t know.||The rooms were immaculate. The property was stunning. We had the opportunity to hike several miles around the property without having to leave it. ||And the food. Can I talk about the food? Every meal had an amazing spread of local dishes, breads, cheeses, and on the weekend - rotisserie meats like carne asada and sausage. ||This is a family-friendly resort, and even though my husband and I were on an early 25th Anniversary trip without our four (adult) kids, we loved seeing all the families enjoying their time together. It reminded us of when our kids were small and made us very happy. ||The kindness and patience of the entire staff made this a memorable stay. At some point, we plan to come back and maybe share this with our children and grandchildren.||Thank you to the entire Dona...

My wife and I got married and arrived at the hotel around 1am Sunday, the 21st July.
THE PROS: We were gently received by reception and had a champagne bottle waiting for us in the bedroom. A nice touch.
Considered a 5 star hotel with a colonial style, the Fazenda D. Carolina brings you back in time, offering you a wide range of entertainment, with lovely and spacious bedrooms.
The food has a large variety of options. Being a meat eater or vegetarian, you won't be disappointed.
Swimming pool, farm animals and sports are among the variety of amenities offered to guests. Quite good part I have to say.
THE CONS: My expectations were quite high considering the 5 star hotel and the price paid.
Two nights for the equivalent of 6 Brazilian minimum salaries is quite high even considering high season. I've paid lower prices in European 5 star hotels.
Malfunctioning air conditioning (necessary as it was quite cold)
No toilet brush available if you want to clean up for people after you, which is quite embarrassing - unbelievable in a 5 star hotel!
Very dirty bedroom windows. We could see hands and faces from children on the glass
Abandoned children in the corridor screaming at 8:10am on a Sunday morning when my wife and I needed to sleep from our bad colds - not sure what the children tutors were doing inside bedroom at that time to abandon kids outside.
OVERALL: Very charming, romantic, but extremely expensive. You do not accommodate families with children alongside guests with no children. For a 5 star hotel, there are critical failures that need urgent...
Read moreWhere to begin? This place is a true gem. I came with my family of 10 for a 4 night-stay. Stunning and well-kept grounds with tons of activities both for kids and adults. You can never feel bored unless that's what you are aiming for. This is a place to relax, take your mind of the hustle and bustle of the real world. Besides offering beautiful and spacious rooms, the staff is what truly sets this place apart. Everyone we came in contact with during our stay was beyond attentive and kind. They are the nicest, most hospitable staff I have experienced at a hotel in Brazil. Food was delicious, never feels repetitive. Topnotch options. The place feels luxurious in some parts and attention to detail is evident. We enjoyed the tours offered, hiking trails, massages, horseback riding, ziplining, etc.||The only thing that was a little lacking was the spa. While the saunas were great, the jacuzzi and the facilities felt a little outdated.||Special shout out to Juliano and Antonio (restaurant) and Tia Piti. You guys truly made our stay...
