All the very positive reviews before, stressed the point that this is an ecological hotel. I'm not sure what does that mean to the guests, but all of those reviews missed the point that the Ecohotel is also very uncomfortable with next to no amenities. We came in summer - that's when people go to Cananeia - and though the rooms are unbearably hot there is no air conditioning, only one ceiling fan and two small windows, one of them sealed with a mosquito screen, providing very little air circulation to mitigate the heat. There are no refrigerators in the rooms (forget about that cold drink). The bed is really small, the mattress is of very poor quality, the pillows are bad, linen and towels are very cheap. The room where meals are served doesn't even have the ceiling fans, and its doors are kept shut because of the mosquitoes so that having breakfast is akin to a sauna bath.||||Reviewers also praised the fact that they were treated like family. Honestly, we are a very happy family and I don't need to be part of another one. All I want in a hotel is good service, a comfortable, clean and well furnished room, where I can adjust the temperature at will, with good quality linen and towels. We could see the couple of owners working hard all day long, but though it certainly keeps their labor costs low, the hotel is clearly understaffed. Breakfast is okay, if you dig natural foods, but dinner is very expensive, the city is several miles and a ferry boat away, and there is no pizza delivery to the hotel.||||Sometimes you find a place in TripAdvisor that almost everybody agrees about it being phenomenal. It can be either because it really is impressive - or because nobody else who disagreed bothered to write about. That's the main reason of posting this review, so that people can take better informed decisions about their vacations. If you don't give a damn about being comfortable while you're away from home then go ahead and stay here. It's quiet, clean, secluded, and there's a nice labrador dog... Let me emphasize that the owners are nice people, and they probably think this is the right way of being ecological - and keeping their costs at a minimum at the same time. I sympathize with the owners desire of running the business of a rural inn by themselves. But I sympathize more with my hard earned money - and I can't figure out how I would improve the environment by spending it sleeping on a small bed, with a rough mattress, cheap linen and pillows, in a scorching hot room with no air conditioning, not even being able to have a cold drink while...
Read moreWe found Lagamar ecohotel by chance, while we were looking for a place to stay on a road trip from Floripa to Rio. We wanted to stay somewhere in nature, close to Ilha do Cardoso, and the hotel’s location was perfect. It was a 20 minute drive (including a ferry) to where the boats set off on day trips to see the island. The owner and staff were super friendly and made us feel instantly at home. The rooms are rustic but perfectly clean and quiet. We loved the traditional home-cooked food for dinner - so delicious and healthy. The mountain-water pool was such an individual touch which i have never encountered anywhere else, and it was lovely to swim in fresh natural water instead of chlorinated pool-water. We couldn’t recommend the ecohotel more if you enjoy being immersed in nature. make sure to bring mosquito repellant and food for lunch, which the hotel will refridgerate for you (as only breakfast and dinner are offered). We went on a trip to the local waterfall which was stunning and to Ilha do Cardoso. If you love dolphins, this is the place to come - we have never seen so many in one day, it was truly magical. There was so much more to see, we wanted to stay an extra few days. The energy of the place was so positive and real, we left feeling peaceful and rested. We can’t...
Read moreWe stayed here for two nights as part of a guided birding trip with Calyptura Expeditions and had a wonderful time.|| The birding on site and from the road nearby was excellent - there is a trail leading into the forest behind the hotel, and we saw lots of good birds including Squamate Antbird, Black-headed Berryeater, and Bare-throated Bellbird. We had a singing Long-tufted Screech-Owl at night. There is a fruit feeder setup here that brings many beautiful birds in close - great for viewing or photographing. Overall, we had a lot of excellent birding from this stunning location. || The views of the forested hills over their little pond made us feel like we were in a little bit of paradise. || The food was great - the staff did a great job of providing vegan food for us that was very tasty. They even made a delicious vegan chocolate cake for us! || There was some onsite yoga while we were there, which was a fun addition (I'm not sure if this is always the case or just happened to be happened because of having staff interested in offering it). || I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone interested in the birds and wildlife of the...
