If you are looking to "escape" from modern life, this hotel is for you. Do not expect any mod.cons - there is no air.con in the bedrooms (not even a ceiling fan), no room safe, no in-room tea/coffee making facilities, no hair-dryer, not even a shaver-socket in the bathroom - so it's bad news for guests like me with electric razors and toothbrush. But what you do get in return is an atmospheric, authentic glimpse of rural old Bulgaria - reflected in the creaky floor-boards and traditional wooden and woven furnishings in the bedrooms and main outbuildings (the separate breakfast room / reception area is modern), and in its authentic and traditional Bulgarian cuisine at dinner. Breakfast is of a good selection to cater for all palates, but surprisingly for a country that loves its pork, no bacon to accompany the fried eggs - maybe its a cultural / religious hang-over from the Ottoman days. The location is a bit off the beaten track (the village of Khmetovtsi has a population of 32 - our coach party doubled it overnight!) so no flashy bars or discos I'm afraid, but if you like the countryside, mountains and rural rambling / walking, then this is the ideal place for you. Particularly good for families with small children, as it has everything you need to combine the opportunity to have a coffee and constantly oversee the young generation while they are playing on the mini playground.||If you decide to stay longer, you can visit the architectural complex of Etara near Gabrovo, the nearby village of Bozhentsi or Old Tryavna.
