Iliykova Guest House (Bed and Coffee) — Hotel in Karlovo

Our big family (2 adults and 3 kids) spent a weekend in Kalofer for my birthday and stayed in Iliikova house thanks to the great reviews of it. The house was more than we expected, with comfortable interior and traditional exhibit at the 2nd floor. Very warm thanks to heating (the nights in the mountain tend to be cold!), very cozy rooms and lovely atmosphere. ||There is a fully equipped kitchen at the ground floor which was important when travelling with kids, and there was a cuddly friendly cat as well :)||Make sure to get the home-made traditional banitsa for breakfast (paid extra, but totally worth it), the breakfast in general is very ample and diverse.||There is a lovely eco path called Byala reka starting 5-6 km from Kalofer. It is very easy to make and amazing for kids thanks to the bridges and beautiful views, but make sure you head for it earlier in the day since the road is poor and we actually left our car 2-3 km before the start of the eco path. We had the pure luck to meet the owner when coming back from the eco path and he drove us back to the car, which spared us the super late coming back to the house.||We had dinner at a non-touristy place close to the house - Tundja restaurant - recommended by the house owner. We have booked one night stay at Iliikova House and just a few days before our arrival, we've received a phone call from the owner saying that they CAN'T accommodate us!!! And that we should cancel our booking (we used booking dot com). We were looking forward to meeting friends of ours in Kalofer ( they've booked a house nearby ) and that just ruined everything! I've called that guy later that day and he acted so arrogantly, stating how many people are canceling bookings through booking dot com ... which is absolutely weird since you've got a cancelation fee !!!
