Family Hotel Medven - 1 — Hotel in Kotel

We stayed at the family hotel during our trip around Bulgaria. There are two parts of the hotel - an old one and in more traditional style, and a new one - modern but still the facade has the historical touch. The owners and staff were very polite and helpful. Food was just amazing (highly recommend the so called "banitza" - traditional Bulgarian meal that goes apparently with Bulgarian yogurt. Rooms were spacious, clean and have their own bathroom and toilet. WiFi worked very well. Overall the hotel is excellent. We went to the "Sinia vir" - a beautiful waterfall in the area. The nature in Medven is very beautiful but the road to the waterfall was not well assigned and unless you try to stick to the river you might get lost. The only thing we didn't like was that we didn't have more days to stay in Medven as it seemed a great place to relax...

We are here for a short weekend break and it's off season, so not too many tourists, just friends who came with us. The village is absolutely old style Bulgaria and it's like stepping back in time, everything slows down and it's so relaxed. The air is fresh, all around there are forests. The hotel was awesome, clean, freshly decor, clean, clean, clean, we loved it and woke to hear rain, looked out our window to see mountains, morning mist, we will visit some local sites today 😂

There is a separate restaurant, which is part of the hotel and it is beautiful and the food, wine and company was great, 5 stars from us guys. Dimo and Yana were the most welcoming hosts and made us feel like we were arriving at home. Even though it's a hotel. When I arrived with my family no one expected us although we had a reservation made for weeks. They showed us few rooms - all of them looking like no one has entered them in months - spider webs, dust. In one of the rooms the shower and toilet were not working properly. The village as a whole doesn't offer much. Even the main reason we went there - the waterfall was below our expectation - it was not that big and to get there we had to ask at least 3...
