We came here for dinner on Thursday night after visiting a nearby spa because someone told us the food was very good. The food and service was average to say the least! The girl that first served us seemed welcoming but the older lady in charge was sour faced and disgruntled by our presence - sorry I'm sure you are a restaurant providing a service?! We ordered a salad, a few sides and a main. The salad arrived first followed by a 20 minute wait for the main meal, which came out lukewarm and slightly congealed, without any of the sides. When I flagged down the head waitress to ask if the other dishes were close behind she scowled at me as if I'd asked her to scrape something off my shoe. Not wanting to start my food before my friend, or eat mine without the sides, I waited a little longer at which point my food was cold. I asked the younger girl where our other meals were and gesticulated to suggest we wanted everything together, and that this dish would get cold. She spoke little English but she seemed to get what I was saying and took my plate away. A further 20 minutes passed and it was getting close to 10pm at this point, so I asked the head waitress again where our food was, this time much more irritated and ready to walk out. She shouted something to the kitchen, probably something along the lines of spitting in my food, and returned 5 mins later with everything. My plate was cold and had been sat on the side, they took this away to microwave it and when it returned it had a thick skin on it, like when you heat up a creamy dish. My friend's food (burek peppers & mushrooms) were both lukewarm and obviously not fresh. The potatoes were practically mush. She clearly gave no f**ks about making amends and was more interested in talking to her friends. We ate it because of the late hour but I wish we hadn't. Even trying to pay was an effort, having to put my coat on and literally walk up to the bar to pay, at which point I was rudely told "cash only". It was a terrible experience from beginning to end. Customer service leaves a lot to be desired in Bulgaria, but Bansko in particular seems to be severely lacking in manners. Do yourself a favour and go anywhere else but here. The Grand Hotel Therme is just down the road and worth every penny more. I'm gutted we didn't pay 50 BGN to eat the buffet there. We would have been...

Read moreThe hot therme pools are well worth a visit it was about 10 lv per person entry, It all seemed very relaxed and informal. We went twice during our week staying in Bansko (it's about £10 in a taxi each way for the 6 of us). There are 3 pool heats (a very hot pool, medium nice warm bath heat and a luke warm one), all have a tough stone finish so feel more natural than a blue tiled 'hotel' type swimming pool set up. Lots of sunlongers and warm clean changing rooms. It closed at 9pm so we went about 6pm and had a good few hours there it was quite magical being outside in a pool at night. The restaurant attached is good value (meal for 6 adults with large beers and a big jug of wine, starters, mains course and desserts was less then £70! #Note they only take cash no cards, could catch you out as it's a bit out of town to be looking for a cash point!) Drinks can be taken into the pool and are cheap too about £2 for a large beer, even though I noticed some people took there own drinks again not sure if its allowed but there was no fuss about this. Highly...
