GOOD - this hotel is situated on beautiful grounds on a gated resort with 3 other sister hotels which you can use with your all inclusive except the 5* one. The Pelican is surrounded by lovely gardens and has a decent size adult pool and small infants pool. there were plenty of sunbeds so no dashing at crazy o'clock but we did travel 12th September for a week (kids were back at school). The weather was good, blue sky and no rain temp between 22-30 degrees.||||BAD - The rooms are very outdated and fitted with carpet which was stained and looked tired. For the week we were there the carpet was not vacuumed once, The bed consisted of a flat sheet and a blanket found in the wardrobe which was changed every day as were the towels. Air con was useless even when turned on high, thought it was just our room but other family rooms were the same. The bathrooms seemed to be remodernised and the shower was great nice and powerful. The staff were hardworking, 12 hour shifts so I presume that's why they found it hard to crack a smile, and 90% of the staff cannot speak English which was a bit difficult asking for directions. Its a good 10-15 mins to the beach which was lovely, golden sand and clear water so clear we could see the many jellyfish swimming around.. Plenty of sunbeds all free, we spent most of our days at the Marina beach hotel which looked so much better than the Pelican and being a sister hotel we could use all their facilities and the beach is a few yards away. ||||UGLY - The food, I think this is the only all inclusive holiday I have been on and lost weight. We are not fussy eaters and will try anything once, food was repetitive and un appitizing . Eg; broad beans in a mayo sauce, processed meats, pork lots of pork with peas , with veg, with soggy rice. Being so close to the sea I expected lots of seafood during our weeks stay there never any Prawn, crab at a push Lobster? instead we had Mackerel, Bream and over cooked salmon on 1 day, mackerel was served 5 out of the 7 days of our stay!! no pasta salads? just tomatoes, cucumber, onions? Meats cooked on the grill were always overcooked which was either chicken or pork. Breakfast wasn't too bad I had omelette every morning, no fresh orange juice just the orange, apple and cherry? Drinks out a machine, For lunch it looked like dinner from the previous day, sandwiches from the bar area were premade and wrapped in cling film so was pot luck as to what you got as they were not labelled. One of our party is allergic to Peanuts, when asking staff if a drink contained nuts they couldn't understand and finally shrugged her shoulder!! None of the foods mentioned anything about allergies.||||||Finally if you have mobility problems the Pelican is not for you, we walked down to the water slides the 1st day its a good 20mins walk and not all flat ground either, you also have to go under a under pass with steps. We had a childs pushchair with us and struggled.||||||Also there is No entertainment at the Pelican or the Marina hotel you have to walk to the amphitheatre which is a good 15min walk which is fine during the day however after eating and drinking all evening, tired children at 10.30pm on the way back!!||||||Your holiday is what you make it and as a family we had fun, but would not return to this hotel, Bulgaria? maybe in...
Read moreDO NOT USE THIS HOTEL!!!! We have just come back after spending a week there and it was hands down the worst holiday experience we have ever had. So many problems to go over but the biggest one was how rude the staff were. No customer care whatsoever, not willing to help anyone and literally would moan if you asked for any assistance. Our air conditioning wouldn’t work and it turns out every other guests that were staying were having the same problem. After speaking to other guests, the reception staff had been telling everyone different stories from an engineer will be out to they have turned the air conditioning off throughout the hotel as it was getting ready to close for the season?!?! We had an engineer out to look at ours and the reception staff contacted us to say he will ‘get a part’ for the air con the following day to fix the problem. Turns out this was a lie and they just told us that to please us at the time. The hotel has a big splash park connected to it and this was one of the reasons we booked here as we have 2 boys. Now imagine the disappointment to find out ( off other guests not the hotel staff) that it was closed, again as they were ‘getting ready to close for the season’. This was not advertised on the website and if it was we would of never booked there. All other families were complaining about this and all the staff would say is ‘well you now know to not book at this time again’! This isn’t exaggerated in any way believe me, these are there actual quotes. Despite it being an ‘all inclusive’ holiday’ a lot of the bars and pools were closed, if you have young ones in a pram then be prepared to carry it up and down stairs to get to the restaurant and pool as there are no ramps. We booked it with first choice and we (along with everyone else that were staying there) complained to the TUI rep and her response was that first choice shouldn’t be selling it as they always have complaints!!!! Not really helpful to us after we had paid a lot to go there. She then went to say that the staff there are underpaid that’s why they are miserable. Our youngest baby has allergy to dairy and my wife who breast feeds him has obviously cut out dairy so he doesn’t have a reaction. They put out allergen advice for the food that they put out, however they put out a pastry that had a symbol that it contained just gluten. My wife had it and my baby son had a severe reaction as it turns out it contained dairy. First choice are currently dealing with our complaints and they are seriously considering not using the hotel again. The rooms were dated and not clean, no sheet on the bed when we arrived and urine on the toilet seat. We obviously asked for a maid to come up and put a clean sheet on the bed and to clean the toilet and her response was ‘tomorrow as it’s to late in the night’ 😂 we were gobsmacked and demanded that she cleaned it which she eventually did. everyone who we spoke to that were staying at the hotel said they were taking it further to ensure the hotel isn’t advertised through first choice again as there experience was as bad as ours. There are so many more issues but I think I’ve ranted enough. Hope you all take the time to read this before you think of...
