Apr 2025 🤞🏻 Mixed experience, but ended on a high note! 🙂 This was our second time staying at GoldenEye Hotel & Resort. We had a great time during our first visit, especially enjoying their generous free buffet breakfast, so we decided to return.
However, our check-in experience on the first night (between 12am–1am) was disappointing. We couldn’t book online anymore because it had passed midnight. If we had booked before 12am, it probably would have been fine. The night staff told us we could only check in if we booked directly at the reception and charged us EUR 75 for the smallest room — quite overpriced for what we got.
Thankfully, the next day was a totally different experience. A different staff member at reception was very friendly and helpful. She was surprised by what we had gone through the night before, and to make it up to us, she upgraded our second-night room (which we had booked online for around EUR 50) to an executive room. That kind gesture really made a difference.
GoldenEye is a massive hotel with around 500 rooms. They were also running a promotion during our stay — if you follow their social media, you get one free buffet meal (lunch or dinner), which we enjoyed. And if you miss the restaurant buffet, there’s a snack and drink area in the casino that’s also free for guests.
The only downside is that smoking is allowed inside the casino. It would be much better if they offered a non-smoking area for guests who want to play without being around smoke.

Wow is the word for this hotel. Unlike anything else you'll experience in Bulgaria (and I've stayed in the 5 star Primoretz in Burgas!) this hotel has all the qualities of one of the best hotels in the world. The rooms are finished to an excellent standard with super-sized beds and plentiful pillows. There's a coffee machine with pods, robes, slippers and marble flooring and Trussardi products in the bathroom.|I had read that upon check-in, the experience was slightly odd as you enter through the casino and have to register your details first before you can even check into the hotel. So I knew to expect that. Actually there's a side entrance which you could go to first to avoid all that kerfuffle.|Anna at reception has customer service down to a fine art. She went over and above the call of duty in making sure I felt welcome. |Big bonus was the inclusion of a buffet dinner on top of the bed and breakfast I had paid for. Dining hall is brightly lit and has a casino vibe with big chandeliers. No windows so you lose all track of time.|The reason I stayed in this hotel was their incredible opening offer which made it cheaper than any other hotel in the vicinity. The American owners are apparently catering for the Turkish market across the border where gambling is illegal. I loved my time there and ended up staying a second night.
