Our first visit to Bulgaria and we weren't disappointed. Ahtopol is ver y much a resort for Bulgarians and we enjoyed the experience greatly. The hotel is well suited to a beach holiday. The rooms are basic, clean and functional. We booked bed and breakfast and the breakfast meal was certainly filling, the only real negative was an endless queue for the coffee machine. ||The hotel is remarkably well run considering it opens for only 4 months per year. Most of the staff were pleasant & friendly though levels of confidence in English speaking varied markedly. Our only real criticism occurred on our first night. Due to travel complications we arrived at 02.30 am, very tired and thirsty and when booking in, we enquired about getting some bottles of water, the receptionist pointed us towards a (closed) local supermarket! This despite the hotel having its own bars and restaurants! Secondly, the hotel confirmed our booking for our two teenage sons as a double room with two single beds, upon arrival we discovered that they had given them a double. When we enquired from the same receptionist, she simply stated that she could do nothing and we would need to discuss with the management the following day. The boys slept together that night.||Overall, both the hotel and Ahtopol would come recommended and we had a great experience here. We would advise eating out as although Ahtopol is relatively small, there are plenty of great little restaurant serving fresh local food at very reasonable prices, many of them...
Read moreWe stayed at the place from august 16. till august 28, double room, bad and breakfast. ||First impresion was that the place was half empty. The restorant that was on the pictures was not the right one, that one was not in use, we had breakfast at the place next to the hotel, food was monotonous, place not very clean, dishes not washed properly, there were not enough personel in the restorant. ||I was not informed that the hotel was dog friendly, and that means that you are going to listen to dogs that bark all day and night, and that was not all.||You will find dogs at the swimming pool running around for a ball, and also at the outer part of the restorant, I don't think it's normal for dogs to be at the swimming pool, or to bark in the room next to you.||Wifi was bad, with constant interuptions, almost impossible to use.||The hotel has a gym, work time is till 19:00, can you imagine that, you can not use it after 19:00. And that is not all, air condition in the gym was out of order, how can anyone use the gym where the temperature is about 30 degrees Celsius?||It is written that the hotel has safe in the room, but that is wrong, no safe, and not even phone in the room, I thought it was normal for the hotel to have the phone in every room.||Room makers took our towels by mistake, they thought it was of the hotel, and we couldn't take it back.||General impression is that this was a bad place, I certainly don't plan...
Read moreThe food quality was unacceptable — both the watermelon and melon served were mouldy, and the meat often had an off colour and unpleasant smell. As a result, we often had meals outside the hotel. Halfway through our all-inclusive holiday, the hotel abruptly stopped serving espresso, ouzo, juices, and any cocktails containing juice. When we asked for an explanation, we were told it was because the season was ending, yet we were still charged full price for an all-inclusive experience, which felt misleading and unfair. The pool bar, which had been advertised as part of the hotel amenities, was not included in our all-inclusive package. This was never made clear during booking and added to our frustration. On a positive note, the room and bar staff were excellent — always friendly, helpful, and professional. The location was also fairly convenient, close to shops and within walking distance to a nice sandy beach. The rooms were clean but very dated. On our first day, the towel rail in the bathroom snapped off and hit our daughter on the shoulder, leaving a bruise. Clearly, some maintenance issues need urgent attention. Overall, this hotel did not live up to expectations, especially given the cost (over...
