Despite the constant downpours (rainy season in full swing), we had a good time here. ||Thomas was welcoming and helpful, letting us take out the kayaks for the day to explore the nearby Tatai waterfalls, and then helping to arrange a jungle trek with a local guide, Dyna. These excursions have been the highlight of our trip to Cambodia so far. ||The setting is beautiful and off the beaten track and really a perfect place to get away from it all and disconnect from everything. ||Food is delicious although you eat what everyone else eats. There's no menu, just a shared communal meal. We eat everything so it wasn't a problem, but I'm sure they can cater to some dietary requirements if needed. ||The rooms are very basic - bare bones - and in the separate "bathroom" hut there's just a bucket and cold water to wash yourself with, so it really is a jungle experience all the way; no creature comforts. But for a couple of days why not? ||Also, after days of heavy rain our very thin mattress was quite damp from the humidity and made for an uncomfortable sleep. Could really feel the wooden frame beneath our backs, which ached the next day. Thomas kindly gave us a blanket to act as an extra, soft dry layer.||Given all of this, we found our "authentic jungle experience" a little pricey for what you get. $35 a night with breakfast was dearer than what we were used to spending ($15-20 per night with hot running water etc). 2 nights quickly became $110 with 2 lunches, dinners and a few beers. We have stayed in similar places but paid much less, as in, the facilities may have been "roots" but then the price matched and was "roots" as well. We don't mind so much if the product and price go hand in hand. ...but given the quality of sleep and very bare bones amenities, communal no-choice meal, and the fact that $35 a night could get you low-key luxury elsewhere, the place could be better value for example if there was half board included... ||Overall though, a unique, fun...
Read moreWe stayed two nights at the natural Paradise, which Thomas has created at the Riverside of the Tatai-River.||Very easy to reach from the Tatai-Bridge, where the Captain of Thomas can pick you up at any time, we stayed two nights in one of the simple, very lovely and self-made Bamboohouses, which offers a direct view on the river out of the hammock on its own terrace. The house is surrounded by flowers, waterpalms and coconutrees of the big garden of Thomas.||Our favourite spot was the terrace on the river, where we always had breakfast, lunch and dinner with all the guests (there are 4 bamboohouses) together. |All day long this place offered such a peaceful and epic atmosphere to us, which started with a jump in the warm water of the river from the terrace's letter in the morning sun and ended with a pot of the fresh made herb tea and a delicious curry, fresh fish or barbecue in the evening, talking to the other guest or writing diary in the candlelight.|There was nothing we needed more!||Our second day we made a daytrip with Thomas, one of the volunteers and two other guests to the Mangroves. First we took the big boat down the river until we reached a small floating village, from where we started to kayak through the small ways between the beautiful spider-like roots of the Mangroves. For lunch we kayaked back to the small village, had a look to the daily-routine of a typical fishing village and bought some fresh crabs. It was really touching to see how all the people of the village were welcoming Thomas and us!|We ended up sitting down at a one of the small local restaurants, shelling the fresh cooked crabs and enjoyed, absolutely satisfied, the feeling of the impressions from the last hours.||Thank you all so much again for your warm way of welcoming and sharing your unique place with us and for all the time and effort you are spending in creating a lovely and nature-based...
Read moreWe came across Neptune adventures by accident. We didn't plan everything for our trip to Cambodia. So in Siem Reap we were looking through our Lonely Planet en we found this, luckily I can say. It sounded great and when we finally arrived it was exactly what we expected en maybe a little bit better. The bungalows and the terras on the water looked really nice. The food was also very good, we especially liked breakfast, the eggs with garlic and tomatoes with ginger tea. For lunch and dinner Thomas always asked what we wanted to eat and we could even choose Schnitzel. Beer and soda were always available and really cold. ||||We did one excursion with Thomas to some waterfalls and to a mangrove where we kayaked through. It was fairly well organized and we saw a lot of the beautiful nature around the Taitai waterfall. Besides the excursion you could always take a kayak out to one of the nearby waterfalls, free of charge. Thomas would even make a warm lunch to take with you.||||When you're looking for a small beautiful place in the jungle away from the busy city and you don't mind going a little bit back to basic, just go here. We had a really good time and we hope you'll have...
