Disappointed at the value of this hotel. I paid $120/night for a VIP room and felt like it was an exorbitant price in Cambodia for the quality of the room and customer service that I received. I paid 1/3 this price in Siem Riep for 5-star service and accommodations. First, they demanded payment upfront before boarding their boat - this should have been a sign of shadiness. We were locked into staying at this hotel. We booked sea view rooms and they ended up giving us other rooms. Once we complained, we were given seaview rooms, but the rooms had broken lights, non-working fridge, dead bugs, hardly any room amenities. We requested soap and there were only two towels per room for the VIP. Also - although other VIP rooms cost us the same price, not all VIP rooms are provided refrigerators. Wifi is also not consistent or reliable given the remote locations and tendency for rainstorms. The hotel representative was rude and hardly accommodating - offering only a coconut for everyone as a consolation for all these misgivings. Should also note that I tried to change to a lower tier room the day before and was told that only two wooden bungalows were available. We found out that many were actually available and that that it's a typical scheme to lie about available rooms to prevent customers from switching to a lower priced room. They cannot be trusted. Hotel did not offer cocktails or fruit shakes or typical beach provisions. Sand was littered. Restaurant folks were helpful but prices were also higher than typical for the country. The hotel next door - Mafiya - allowed us to use their facilities. We would recommend going to the Mafiya hotel for higher standard rooms, customer service, food, and amenities altogether - higher prices at the sister hotel, but would be more satisfied with the...
Read moreKoh Rong has the most beautiful sea and beaches I have ever seen! However, this beautiful Island is being destroyed minute by minute every day. The island is supposed to be protected from further development but this is being ignored by the local police and tourists who frequent there. You can hear building work all day, the trees in the jungle are being felled to make more huts and young party animals are dropping rubbish in the beautiful white sands. If walk down one end of the beach you can see how this lack of care is turning the sand from white to brown. Every time a new guest house is put up sewerage pipes are ran down towards the sea (where people are swimming) and they are sometimes buried into the sand where people are walking with their bare feet. There are still unspoiled parts but the numbers of people camping in these parts is growing and it looks like soon places will be built. The other problem about campers is that many leave rubbish and human excrement around on the island. We left the island soon after we arrived as all of this made us sad and we did not want to be part of it. All I can say is, if you go to Koh Rong please take care of it. It's a wonderful place but it is clearly not going to last long unless the...
Read moreWe originally booked 4 nights but ended up leaving because there was no water for three days. It's true that we were originally warned that there may be a lack of water from time to time because it is dry season, but each day we were told there would be water the next. We stayed in a dorm, which I guess was near a generator, so the room smelled strongly of fumes, especially on the top bunks. Lastly, even though the water to flush the toilets is sea water and has nothing to do with the water shortage, the buckets were seldom refilled so there was lots of nastiness after a few days in all of the bathrooms. On a positive note, the staff was helpful and allowed us to use the money that we paid upfront for the beds in the restaurant. We ended up moving somewhere else with water (with good pressure). There are lots of options on the island that are the same price or cheaper so if you can, I suggest scouting places once...
