I booked this place despite the reviews here because of its convenient location in the Bastos neighborhood (an easily walkable area full of shopping and restaurants). The location and the lovely doorman are about all I could recommend about this hotel. ||||The front desk lady was not very keen to help and tried to insist I hadn't paid when I already had. Evidently, the rate I booked included free breakfast, but I was never informed. The carpet throughout the hotel is incredibly stained and mildewed, and my room had a strong stench of old, mildewed carpet. Rooms do not have proper locks (no deadbolt, only a push button lock, which even I could have easily picked), which was a bit worrying in a big hotel. The bathroom did not seem to have been properly cleaned, and I found hairs that were not my own on the pillows, so I'm not entirely sure the sheets had been washed, either. Noise echoed down the halls, so I didn't sleep so well with others on my hall coming in and out at all hours.||||There is no elevator, so the hotel is not suitable for those who are unable to climb stairs.||||Way too expensive for what it was. Would...
Read moreIt was chosen for me, I did not choose it. ||1. It has no elevator, and they gave me a third floor room.||2. The room was enormous. The bed was made of two beds put together. ||3. The AC was on the other side of the room, so air wasn't really getting to the bed. ||4. No remote control.||5. No bathroom curtain, had to put the towel. Good thing is it's not a busy street. ||6. Not a lot of plugs. Only 2, my electronics had to take turns to charge. ||7. I did have hot water. ||8. Taxis on the street are way cheaper and they make you think they're bargaining a good price for you.||9. No one speaks English. ||10. The staff at the restaurant was better than the hotels'.||11. There is a big supermarket nearby dovv.||12. There was only internet at the lobby, sometimes I had the third floor signal. ||13. It's so old, I guess it will never look clean. ||||||A lot of African delegates from other countries were really, really displeased with everything. We had bursaries, and at the time of payment it was mayhem cause no one spoke French. I found about the price of the rooms, and trust me, it's...
Read moreBased on reviews, none of the hotels in Yaoundé are much to write home about. I decided to give the Azur a try, since people had said it was quiet. While not particularly enchanted when I checked in, my room was adequate, and I settled in for my week-long stay. ||||Pros: relatively quiet neighborhood, and for me, not too far from the office; restaurant with a view out over a garden and parking lot, and beyond green hills ; pleasant restaurant staff ; nice doorman ||||Cons: no water one evening/morning and had to bathe with a bucket of water (but having lived 11 years in a city with serious water problems, this wasn't a big deal) ; had to pay cash as they claimed their credit card machine wasn't working ; indifferent front office staff ; only a rudimentary armoire where shirts could hang straight, but not my long skirt or pants and only a couple of hangers, no iron/ironing board ; restaurant a bit boring after a week of the same menu ||||As I will be returning to Yaoundé, I will probably...
