I wish I could have rated this as 2.5. Let me preface this review by saying that A River Road Bed & Breakfast is a lovely spot. The grounds are gorgeous, the main house is lovely, the hosts were friendly and welcoming, and breakfast was very good. Previous reviewers have rated the property quite highly and they would be right -- based on their accommodation and their experience. Let me be clear -- this is not a negative review. I just want people to be aware of certain aspects of the log cabin before they book. Otherwise, they might not be as kind in their reviews.||||We spent one night in the log cabin this past weekend. I booked late, and the cabin was all that was available. I was actually quite delighted about that since my husband and I are great fans of log cabins in the woods. However there were some questions I wish I'd asked, but, quite honestly, the questions that I should have asked were ones that I'd never had to consider before. For example, it would never have occurred to me to ask if there was a bathroom, and if so, was that bathroom in a private room. In the case of the log cabin, the toilet was not private, but was in fact in the main and only room in the cabin. It was partially hidden behind a Japanese screen divider, which only partially obscured the "view" and none of the sounds. The sink next to the toilet had two taps, but only one of them -- COLD water -- worked. No hot water unless you boiled the electric kettle, but there was no stopper in the sink, so that would have been pointless. There was no shower in the cabin. You had to go up to the basement of the main house. There was also no mini-fridge. Again, you had to go up to the basement of the main house.||||It had its charm, but for $150.00 a night, one might expect a little less "charm". The cabin is adjacent to the pasture where horses are boarded. I was completely delighted with them, which is a good thing because I spent a lot of time visiting them whenever my husband needed a little "privacy", and he likewise visited them when it was my turn.||||It is charming, though rustic. But if privacy and hygiene are important to you, as they are to us, you might not want to book at the cabin. The main house is...
Read moreI came in from Ontario to visit with friends in northern Alberta and they organized a two night stay at River Road B & B. It was absolutely charming and after a whole day of travel I needed a comfortable bed. I was not disappointed. Down like pillows and soft fleece sheets kept me warm and cozy all night long. I slept soundly and enjoyed a truly delicious breakfast the next two mornings. The home is spacious, well appointed with hundreds of interesting collectibles, and spotlessly clean. They have thought of everything to make for a relaxed and easy stay in a quiet ambiance. I so appreciated the motion night lights in the hallways and stairwells; and the great shower and water pressure. Our wonderful hostesses; Charlotte and Eve, were wonderfully hospitable, accomodating, and friendly. The B & B is easy to find just outside the city set in a lovely woodland of birch and fir trees. I will be recommending to friends and look forward to another stay in the...
Read moreI was travelling alone as my husband had to work. I have to say that Charlotte, Rod and Eve were very welcoming and friendly. It was like a home away from home - it was like looking outside into a Winter Wonderland. I stayed in the upper suite, and it was very comfortable, and I slept very well. The food was amazing. I would have to say that it is one of the BEST B & B's that I have ever stayed at. Much more personable and comfortable than any hotel room. We hope to come back in the summer, as the drive was beautiful (even for winter) and to see what it is like that time of year, and to take advantage of the wonderful deck and sitting area. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness during my stay. It will not...
