Nothing fancy but a homey mountain getaway on the foothill of Mount Solomon, away from the crowds in Jasper. Perry and Amber, an accomplished author herself, have owned and operated Black Cat Guest Ranch for many years, and they built all the extensive hiking trails on Mount Salomon themselves just footsteps from the ranch building, which means you don't have to drive anywhere to go hiking. Mount Solomon is clothed with spectacular autumn colors in the Fall. Breakfasts are hearty and substantial and you can go for seconds, which means you can only do two meals a day, a big breakfast at Black Cat and a good supper in Hinton, which is 15-20 minutes drive down the mountain. Snacks like pies, cookies, and muffins, as well as tea and coffee, are provided free of charge all day and night. Unfortunately Black Cat Ranch doesn't offer trail rides on horseback anymore. If you are travelers looking for places and roads less traveled, I would highly recommend Black Cat Guest Ranch. Mind you, the room we stayed in looks old and does need renovation, but it was clean, quiet, the beds were firm, shower was good, and you can catch beautiful sunrise colors in...

Google map navigates perfectly to the location irrespective of the time of arrival. We reached late so the office left a letter and our keys at the front desk. We called a few hours in advance to inform about our delay, the lady at the front desk told us no problem enjoy your drive in. We are early risers met Perry the ranch owner preparing breakfast so helped ourselves to some coffee before time. The breakfast which was included was sumptuous. Perry and his wife Amber are wonderful people. Had some wonderful conversations on Bear conservation, forest fires, climate change etc. We met other couples as well from across the world. The dogs are super friendly and can come with you on a trail if you want. We loved the ranch experience waking up to an early morning due and horses. The location worked perfectly as the road from Jasper to the Ranch is known for sighting animals, we saw grizzly bears, Elk, mountain goat and moose. People from across the world come here, and I would definitely come back again. Perry and Amber are wonderful hosts, kind...

The Black Cat Guest Ranch is not a hotel, it is an experience. It is located well outside of any town, down a good quality dirt road. There was a small creek crossing that had about 1 inch of water - not a problem for any vehicle. The ranch has a huge property, lawn, horses, deer, hiking trails, fire pit and beautiful views. The lodge has no TV (not sure about cell service) but does have decent Wifi and a large library of books, mostly old. The rooms look you would expect for a ranch that was built in the 1970s. The breakfast was hand made each morning at 8:30: eggs benedict, pancakes, fresh fruit, sausage, homemade cookies. The weather was unseasonably warm when we were there, and there is no AC, so the room was quite warm at night. We could have stayed other places and had the same cookie-cutter hotel experience we've had dozens of times before. That is a very safe, cautious way to go, and it's what we normally do. The Black Cat ranch is not boring or cookie-cutter, and we will remember those two nights for a long time. (In a...

Off the beaten path between Hinton and William Switzer prov park. This is a very rustic and quaint hotel. Tons of history here with pictures and scrapbooks all over the lodge. If you’re looking for cookie cutter hotel chains move on. This is not for you. Rooms are dated but comfortable and clean. No televisions. Excellent Wi-Fi. Beds are comfortable. Breakfast is high quality and freshly made. I love the communal kitchen where you can store your restaurant leftovers or sandwich makings for the trail. They have a snack and drink station where you can find fruit, homemade baked goods and fruits 24/7. I was travelling with my girls who stay up late and sleep later. They hung out in the common area after I passed out from the peace and when I woke in the am I enjoyed fresh coffee while watching the horses graze and the day begin (ok I also did some work). They do not serve lunch or dinner so be prepared. Town is a 25 minute drive. The fresh mountain air will have you napping by early evening.

We really enjoyed our stay at the black cat ranch while exploring Jasper. It's about an hour drive from Jasper so the location is great. Loved coming back to the ranch every night to a friendly, wholesome community. The rooms were clean and everything was working properly. Breakfast every morning was also great, delicious and kept us satisfied. The scenery is beautiful here. Only recommendation i suggest is to improve the kitchen (too small and lack of appliances, but we made do)
