The good: the location and close proximity to Calgary and Okotoks The bad: some sites are very narrow, and little to no definition between sites. Sites are so narrow, that your neighbours sewer is in your site. Our neighbours sewer was next to our picnic table. We smelt it all weekend, and it was absolutely disgusting. Power & water hookups can be about 20-50 feet away from your site. And you share a water/electric tower with 3-4 other sites. It’s also kinda sketchy having it all intertwined. Hardly anyone keeps their dogs on leash. So if you are walking your dog around (on leash) be prepared for multiple dogs to come running up to you and not listen when being called back. Quiet time is a suggestion. We had a very, very distant neighbour blast their music until 12:30am. All the porta potty’s around the campground are disgusting and look like they hadn’t been cleaned or emptied in months. The regular bathrooms were locked and you apparently needed a code, but a code was never provided to us at check in? The showers are expensive. $10 per person, per shower, and we were told you got a max 15 minutes. The showers are locked, and we were told you have to reserve a time, and someone would unlock it for you at your scheduled time. The sites are not cleaned, raked/grated, or even checked by staff once someone checks out. We watched multiple of our neighbours check out on Sunday, no staff came by to check/clean the sites before the new people checked in. “Peaceful wilderness” or “natural paradise” is not how I would describe this place. This campground is expensive, and I expected much better from it for the cost.

A Dusty Gem Just Outside Calgary! Despite the gravel road (yes, your vehicle and camper will get a little dusty – embrace it!), I truly enjoyed my stay at Nature’s Hideaway. It’s a hidden gem approx. 23 minutes from Calgary, making it a perfect nature escape without being too far from the city buzz. The campground itself was peaceful and well-kept. Some sites could benefit from a bit of overgrowth cleanup, but hey—it’s camping, not glamping! My only real “struggle” was leveling the camper on some pretty chunky rocks (think boulders, not pebbles!), but that’s a first-world problem I’m willing to laugh off. Pro tip: Skip the loonie showers and treat yourself to the \$10 family shower instead. You get 15 minutes in a clean, private shower house with two showers—plenty of space and time to freshen up without rushing. Now let me give a special shout-out to Tara (didn’t catch her last name, but I won’t forget her vibe!). She was INCREDIBLE—her energy, laughter, and welcoming spirit were absolutely contagious and added so much warmth to the whole stay. Seeing Tara rip around on her little electric bike always made me smile! The general store was a pleasant surprise too—stocked with essentials like ice, firewood, and all sorts of camping goodies you didn’t know you needed until you saw them. Best of all? The campground was quiet, everyone was respectful, and there were zero issues. Just chill vibes all around. Thank you, Nature’s Hideaway! I’ll definitely be back—with a broom for the camper steps and some extra change for snacks from the store 😄🌲🔥

This is one of the biggest money grab camp grounds in Alberta. Please make sure you read all the rules as it is a hard core Karen that wrote them. Things you should know before going. There are tons of places with lakes and rivers that are more beautiful, better serviced, better priced and the most important less rude staff.

The negative experience this weekend.

All visitors coming even for 10 mins will need to pay $10 each. No AC allowed to be used at the site. No generators allowed, even when it was 37C Anything they can charge you for they will. Sani station is $15 per use Do not bring any weed as its not allowed There is NO back up power, when their power is out, the water is out as well. (owners left the camp gound and let their staff deal with the power outage on Friday for 7 hours), the power was already spotty all weekend. Owners will not credit you for anything even the power outtage with no water. They say its not their fault. A. (Yes it is, at least allow the guest to use their own generator. B (get some back up power man! You can't just rely on the grid) You can't walk out of your camp site with alcohol Definitely the rudest staff I've ever seen in Canada for a campsite, they will yell at you if you don't read the rules ect. Prepared to have staff driving around the camp grounds every 10-20 mins to make sure you obey all rules. They will rudely come to your camp ground if you have music on or too loud after 11pm. We weren't even that loud. Basically anything above a whisper is not allowed. Its the most expensive camp ground in AB, $50 a day for water and 20 amp power. They have sewage there but they try to make you pay for the $15 sani dump instead. Every person I talked to were not happy about this camp ground. Extra spotty power and water. Best if you just filled your water tank instead. They will charge by the tent/people and not the site, $380 total for a group of 12 people for tenting in the weekend. More bugs than most campsites, its the real natures. $12 small wood bundle and $12 ice packs plus gst. Lets hope it isn't 30C + when you go. No privacy at all. You have 5 other sites within 15 feet of you. Lastly, come here if you want to feel like you are being billed for everything.

The positive sides River is right there Movie and band...

I've been camping for about 25 years and I've finally found it...the worst campsite in AB! Do you want to relax in your trailer on a hot day and read a book with the A/C on...don't come here. Is it a little cool and you want to have a fire and visit friends....don't do that here unless you sit in silence.

We stayed this last weekend after booking online a few weeks ago. You can't pick your site, only request proximity to friends sites. We got there and they had us split up across 2 sets of roads. Why not just tell us that when you took our money?

First night there, we had the pleasure of dealing with a "security guard" at 3 different points in a 40 minute time period. "quiet time", and I use that term loosely, is policed by some dude with a headlamp that I am sure has hearing problems. He barged into our site all 3 times demanding we stop talking and turn down our music. Fun fact...it was the site a road over. We didn't have music. Maybe he was wanting us to pass along the message to the louder crew for him.

Next night, there was a legit party down the way. Our "friendly" neighborhood guard must have forgotten his hearing aid that night and didn't once let them know of the rules we had been so rudely taught 24 hours earlier.

I can promise I will never recommend this place to anyone...ever. It is a dump pure and simple. It is extremely unkept, dirty, loud and the sites with service are shared with other sites. It was weird to have to go to my neighbors site to plug in 50ft away. Our friends site sided up to 3 other smaller sites. They could wake up in the morning go out there door, take 5 steps forward and be standing on the other sites poop pipes.

This place is a conundrum wrapped in an enigma. Either people have become a whole lot less picky, or covid have scrambled their brains, it is the only explanation as to how this has any positive...

This place it TERRIBLE!!!! Think of the worst campground you’ve stayed at, this is worse! We had a constant smell of sewer, even while sitting around the fire. They don’t maintain any part of the campground. It is terribly rocky everywhere: campsites, roads, etc. you CANNOT enjoy a bike ride through the campground, you’re constantly jerked around…if you want to roll your ankles at any time, you’ll stay here. There’s no grass, just weeds. There’s no field area to play bocce ball, frisbee, or badminton. If you want a friend to come see you while you stay here, they charge $7 per person. I have not seen more than $6 for a sani dump at any campground in Alberta…here they charge $15.75!!! 3 RCMP drove through on Saturday and then another on Sunday…this is somewhat concerning as it is a private campground. Are there so many problems that they need constant surveillance? There’s so much garbage around the beach area, no cleanup. There’s a massive amount of empty propane tanks right near the playground. They never cleaned it out while we were there…so dangerous! We know that buying wood at a campground costs more than elsewhere, but they charge $13 for 5 pieces! That’s excessive. We read how strict they are about dogs being on leash so we respected that. How we, on the Friday night between 11 pm - 12 am, we had our dog off leash by the fire, sleeping in her chair. They came by twice asking us to put her on leash. The day we left, we found a nasty letter tossed under our trailer threatening us that we’d have to remove our dog off the campground as they’d received multiple complaints. This is extremely disturbing as she stayed right by us, no one would have known otherwise. That tells us that they hate dogs. The whole experience was TERRIBLE. I’d rather stay in a Walmart parking lot. If you’re considering giving this place...
