River Retreat Kananaskis — Hotel in Alberta

I just returned from a wonderful weekend getaway at River Retreat Kananaskis.

As a busy working single Mom I get burned out with decisions and responsibilities and seek a place to rest from time to time to take a break from it all.

Jaxy & Todd welcomed me in and made it the most effortless, relaxing weekend I’ve had in a long time. My hardest decisions were to choose between pancakes or eggs for breakfast and how I liked my steak cooked.

The rooms are utterly gorgeous with the most thoughtful touches throughout. The bedding hugs you in and is so luxurious and the bathroom provides an unexpected comfort…the toilet seat is warmed!

I was lucky enough to spend my first evening with one of the artists whose art creates the most beautiful decor throughout the retreat, Dave Rodgers and his wife Sue. We dined in the dining room and happily drank a couple bottles of the most excellent red wine that Todd recommended.

The food. 🤩🤩🤩 The food was magical. Jaxy is a dang good cook!!! I had fondue on Friday night and Rib-eye on Saturday. I’ve ate at some high end steakhouses before but that steak was the best I’ve ever had. Fork tender and exploding with the best Alberta beef flavour!

Before I left today I booked again in October…I suspect this will be a hard place to book real soon.

If you want to be treated well and feel ‘cared’ for, this is the place. Thank you both for your welcoming...

Experience of a lifetime. Myself and my son stayed at the beautiful River Retreat Kananaskis and attented a Fly Fishing course and practical right on the property. There was so much care built into this place, the experience, the ambience. Sitting in the dining area you can see two different spectacular views, river and mountains. Todd and Jaxy are incredible people and on top of that Todd makes the best smoked old fashioned I have ever had. Jaxy served us the most delicious food, it was all 5 star. And above all their company and hospitality were unmatched. Jordan and Barrett from Hustle Trout Fly Fishing put off an incredibly informative course and we got to practice and then fish the river. We had the time of our lives and are absolutely hooked. Fly fishing is now our family adventure and will continue to pursue it with passion. We also met fly fishing legend Jim McClennan and his wife Lynda who is a legendary artist in her own right. We were thoroughly impressed start to finish, and we look forward to more stays with Jaxy and Todd...

When our original trip went sideways due to the fire situation (sadly) in BC, we had to pivot. And, we ended up here. A group of 7 women we were, spending 3 lovely days and nights. We had the best time, with the best hosts, who shared the best amenities and delightful culinary experiences. Details mattered to our group and we were impressed! High quality bedding, amazing bathrooms with surprise perks, excellent food and service, and the best outdoor living room experience you could wish for. The river! And, you have a variety of ways to stay on the site. We were in their retreat rooms, and there are also glamping options too. For those near Calgary and farther afield, (like us), this is a fantastic place to retreat...whether a couple, (one of whom we met, celebrating their 52nd anniversary), to a group of Mamas and caregivers (like us) looking for some rest and relaxation. This was the best pivot we could have asked for. Better outcome then we had originally hoped for. Thank you,...
