My sister held her wedding here in the summer of 2019. This is a great venue with nice scenery and well priced. It was relativity easy to plan the wedding itself as well as everything was basically included and planned through the venue in coordination with other vendors. Terry did a great job keeping in contact and really thinks of every last detail. You can tell shes seasoned in weddings and cares about the experience. Unfortunately we did have some noticeable issues when it came to dinner, service and the bar. Dinner was served hot and on time, however we had a number of complaints from the guest. Guests would get up to use the washroom, tend to their children or grab a drink form the bar during dinner the staff would immediately take their place setting leaving them no way to continue eating upon return. A number of guests didn't eat anything at all; There wasn't enough food served to the tables. Guests came to the head table with a plate to grab food. We didn't eat much because of the above point so I asked the wait staff to set aside anything that was left for us as we were staving. First, there was no food left as they didn't make enough and then one of the wait staff informed me that leftovers are eaten or taken home by the staff. Luckily one of the wait staff put a small portion aside for us in secret. Last time I checked, the bride and groom weren't paying to feed the staff dinner. The bride had discussed and paid for "gourmet" hot dog bar for a midnight snack. Chef Judy (the venues preferred caterer) said the hot dogs would be bbq then simmered in a delicious bbq sauce and served with all the fixings including jalapenos, onions, cheese, sauces etc. They served bbq hot dogs with ketchup, mustard, relish and a small bowl of onions. Contrary to what the response is to this review, the bride was told the hotdogs would be "gourmet" with the above mentioned fixings for the price she paid. Also was told they are willing to make and serve whatever the couple wants, now they have preferences on what they cook apparently. Chef Judy, who we planned the meal with and whom said she would be preparing everything, wasn't there. There was a random guy cooking the food. Before this review we were not informed there was an emergency. Totally understandable. With that being said, it is important to know the food was delicious and the staff was friendly. Just too efficient I guess? Now onto the bar. This venue chooses to sell tickets instead of offering cash service. As a result of this, the guest choose to give a $20 or whatever bill they have to the ticket holder and only take tickets up to the bar. Normally, with a cash bar, guest would leave behind the change as a tip. In this case, there was no change to leave behind. The bar assistant (who I think coordinates the day of) actually went up to the mother of the groom and told her that the bar tenders usually make x amount of tips in a night, pressuring her to leave more money. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. As someone who has bar-tended for years before I can understand where they are coming from, however this is the venues policy. If the bar-tenders make x amount of tips normally then there should be a clause in the contract. We would have been more then happy to pay the additional tip if required or if they had brought it up after the wedding. We just didn't appreciate how she brought that up to the mother of the groom during the event. In response to the comment about tips, an additional transfer was sent because the mother of the bride heard about what happened and didn't realize the mother of the groom had already left an additional cash tip that night. **This review is being left by a guest of the wedding and not the...
Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of hosting our wedding at Rocking R Guest Ranch, and I can confidently say it was the most magical day of our lives, thanks in no small part to this stunning venue. From the moment we arrived for our initial tour, we knew it was the perfect place to say "I do."
Venue Atmosphere: Situated on a hill overlooking the serene Eagle Lake and surrounded by towering trees and lush greenery, Rocking R Guest Ranch offers a breathtaking backdrop for any wedding. The outdoor ceremony space is nothing short of picturesque, with panoramic views of the pasture and lake, creating a peaceful, tranquil setting for our vows. After the ceremony, we transitioned to the rustic-chic event tent and outdoor patio area for the reception. The tent was elegantly adorned with chandeliers and featured a spacious wooden dance floor that added to the charm. There was plenty of room for dining and dancing, and the outdoor space allowed our guests to enjoy the natural beauty of the ranch throughout the evening.
Customer Service: The service at Rocking R was exceptional. Owners Kara and Ryan are a wonderful, welcoming couple who were attentive and professional from start to finish. Kara, in particular, went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly, ensuring we were calm and relaxed every step of the way. On the day of the wedding, the staff was equally fantastic—friendly, efficient, and always ready to help without being overbearing. We truly felt like we were in capable hands the entire time, which gave us peace of mind to fully enjoy our day.
Facilities: The venue boasts a perfect blend of indoor and outdoor spaces, making it adaptable for any weather conditions. We were fortunate enough to have perfect weather, but knowing we had an indoor option available made us feel at ease. The restrooms were clean, modern, and spacious—an important touch that exceeded our expectations for a ranch-style venue. Every detail was thoughtfully considered, adding to the overall comfort and enjoyment of our celebration.
Value for Money: Their customizable packages made planning easier, and the quality of service, stunning surroundings, and overall experience made it more than worth every penny. We felt that the venue provided incredible value for what we received, and we wouldn't change a thing.
DJ: we used their preferred DJ Scott from Spectrum Entertainment and he was amazing. Highly recommend.
Transportation: because its outside Calgary, we chartered a bus and our guests found this a great touch.
Final Thoughts: If you're looking for a venue that combines natural beauty, impeccable service, and a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere, I wholeheartedly recommend Rocking R Guest Ranch. It provided us with the perfect setting for our wedding day and exceeded every expectation. The peaceful ranch setting, paired with the personalized care we received, made our celebration unforgettable. We are so grateful to have chosen this gem for our...
Read moreI was extremely disappointed with the way the RRR handled our booking. They didn’t get along with our wedding planner so they completely ruined our wedding experience. They went over an initial contract that my husband and I signed. And then TWO WEEKS before the wedding day, they wanted to change the contract with a TON of wacky conditions to add extra charges. We couldn’t use the bathroom without added charges, the reception would have been over by 10 PM when it was originally not stated, guests can’t wander the property if they aren’t apart of pictures. Just a bunch of controlling rules. The day of the wedding my planner wouldn’t have been allowed on the property. My husband is a DJ and when they found out they added this clause
“ 4.3 DJ’s & Music Providers: Any vendors providing music services must be respectful in regards to the level of volume. If it is deemed that any music is too loud or disruptive, the Company reserves the right to ask the vendor to reduce the volume, change the song, or shut down completely.”
Because they considered this a cancel (based on the first signed contract they said was not valid cause “they didn’t sign”) they kept all our money and we had to pay for a new venue 2 weeks before the day. I was gonna sue for my money back but I would rather not interact with these people again. I texted them and emailed for our money back with no luck. So I reported it after the wedding to the BBB and they threatened to criminally charge us in their response through the BBB. Then after my wedding the owner texts me asking us to come out for a drink cause this isn’t how they wanted this to go. So expect added charges if you go here.
In their response, they still blamed my wedding planner for taking my money and canceling our wedding. No accountability for ruining someone's wedding planning experience. I am SO SO happy we found the spot we did to make the...
