The Rocky Mountain Escape Log Cabin is a must-do when traveling and exploring Canada! This place is ideal for escaping the stressful and fast-paced world, being offline and simply switching off, unwinding and finding peace and quiet. And this is why:
the location: The cabins are located on a small hill above a river that can be reached in 10 minutes on foot. In general, it is an idyllic and peaceful setting. From the huts there are various signposted hiking trails, ranging in difficulty from easy to difficult. (Recommendation for the "Hoff Ridge", the path is difficult but you will be rewarded with the breathtaking view over the valley). Through the windows of the cabin you can see many animals of the forest, so we saw squirrels, rabbits and deer.
the cabins: The cabins are not only beautiful and clean, both inside and out, but are equipped with everything you need for your stay (even hot water and light). There are also plenty of towels, cutlery, fridge, extra blankets should the nights get colder. The griddle, which is in front of each cabin, is easy to use and versatile for any food preparation. The highlight of the cabins are probably the large, really clean windows with a view of the forest. This allows you to observe nature and wildlife up close from your bed or while eating. Simply magical.
the hosts: Gary and Julia are the nicest people and will help you if you have any questions or problems. They run the cabins and life in the wilderness with real passion, also recognizable by their many experiences, pictures and videos that Gary showed us. They are really welcoming and make you feel right at home.
Overall, there is not one thing about the Rocky Mountain Escape Log Cabin experience that I would change. I wish Gary and Julia all the best and look forward to...
Read moreWhen we booked this gem, we knew that we were in for a treat! Our first drive from the highway to the cabin was a one of a kind experience, after 2 times we felt like true locals and the driving experience was amazing! What a adventure it was when we left the cabin at 5:00am to be the first at Jaspers Maligne Lake!
Julia and Gary are amazing hosts and are available whenever you want and like to talk about everything! They also provide us with tips about the area and thanks to them, we did the Hoff Ridge Hike (just to the edge of the mountain, there was a lot of snow) and I asked my girlfriend to marry me. It was amazing to have the woods for ourselves with no other sounds then the animals that you hear and so it was the perfect setting for a proposal!
The cabin itself is a great experience and has everything you need during your off the grid getaway. We enjoyed having a nice French Pressed coffee (with their own blended coffee 😍) and cooking with the griddle on the deck.
We had a great sleep and the bathroom was very nice! It was nice to have a cozy fire to warm you up after a nice day of hiking.
When you want a one of a kind experience, then don't hesitate to book this cabin! You won't regret it! And make sure to have some breadcrumbs ready to feed the adorable Grey Jays that fly around the cabin. They will eat from your hand!
Julia and Gary, Thank you for this wonderful experience we won't...
Read moreRemote Cabin Excursion. Our visit was on the Easter long weekend. Fresh snow fall on the way in, and t shirt weather the next day on the patio. Away from everything but nature. HOT running water. Nice full size shower. Excellent wood burning furnace. Clean, Fresh mountain water, from the tap. Beautiful patio. Sweet, outdoor griddle. True Surround Sound, crystal clear, natural silence, and 360° panoramic mountain and forest visuals. The Cabin is so cozy, it makes you, want poor weather outside, so you can stay indoors, and enjoy the complementary wine and chips/crisps provided. The second day, I was so relaxed, I had are hard time distancing myself from the comfy queen bed and the perfectly placed wood heater. Location is remote, so bring your bush smarts, and your appreciation for nature. On the way in we seen a few deer. On the way out however, we seen a smaller Brown Bear on the road. It quickly scrambled up the slope and disappeared into the forest. There was also Elk sign near the Cabins, close to the frozen creek, and was pleased to meet the resident Gray Jays/"Robber Jays/Whiskey Jacks". Which you can read all about in the "Birds of Alberta" book, provided for your researching pleasure. And the lovely owners? Well they are both absolutely delightful. On a five start scale, this mountain get away, is a...
