My family used to come here every summer when I was a kid, and I have so many fond memories of playing on the beach and swimming in the lake.
Thirty years later, we decided to rent two cottages and revisit Oxtongue Lake Cottages. And our visit did not disappoint.
The cottages are cozy and modernized. We were told to bring our own heavy blankets as they could not supply them due to COVID-19, but the cottages were so well insulated that we didn't need them even though the temperature fell close to zero degrees overnight.
The beach has soft, rock-free sand and the water deepens gradually which makes it kid-friendly. It was fun for the adults too as there are a number of floating docks (even one with a slide) we could swim to, and there were canoes and kayaks free to explore the lake with.
The property also has a great playground, a volleyball net, swings, and teeter totters, so there is plenty to do even if you don't want to go in the water.
All of the cottages look out towards the beach and play area, which makes it easy to keep an eye on the children. And it means that it's easy to get back to the cottage to get out of wet swimsuits and get back to playing!
The staff was also wonderful, and so helpful. We had forgotten to bring a mat for our Pack and Play, and they were able to find us not only a mat but also a complete Pack and Play for us to borrow!
The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is because the stoves and BBQs weren't working properly, which made cooking a bit trickier than we had planned, but they still worked well enough that we could still use them.
I'm so glad that we were able to go back to Oxtongue Lake Cottages after so many years. It was beautiful to see our children enjoy it as much as we did when we were their age. We will definitely...
Read moreLove this place, ive been in yearly attendance since i was born. Nostalgia hold alot for me aoth this particular location but having said that i will give an honest and fact based review. The cottages: they were in a poor state before John and hos family took ownership and each year the place looks better wether it be a new kids area to play or a totally revamped cabin along with touch ups to yhe others. Id say they are fairly priced. The location is superb, the view is awesome the beach is clean and comfortable and there are many on site actitives to engage in. The staff: Th owner John and his wife are beautuful people, johns sons espically Guy are very heplful and kind in handelong the guests. The manager Ross although has a attitude that leave alot to be desired and has needlessly butt heads with more then one guest over several years is very dedicated to his job and works hard to keep the place clean for eveone to enjoy....just dont ask him for anything lol hes not all bad just not a ppl person in my opnion. If you have a chance anytime of the year is a good time tp visit oxtounge lake cottages. If not id say ypu might be...
Read moreWe recently booked cottage #3. We booked a week and stayed 3 days. What a disappointment, the kitchenette is so small you have no working room. The appliances are from the 80's the refrigerator made so much noise it was hard to sleep at night. It went on for a day and a half before it reached a cool temperature. The lighting is dull in all areas. The sofa had been used as a scratching post by cats. The toilet seat had large pieces of plastic peeling off. The mice running inside the cupboards and under the stove was enough to make us eat out for every meal. Complained to the owner about 3 day reimbursement, he declined. He said our complains could have been addressed if brought forth at the time. i.e. the toilet seat would have been changed if we had complained at the time. If you are renting out cottages as a business why wouldn't you have a check list for condition of your equipment. Better to be pro active rather than reactive. I realize it is a cottage in the woods not a 5 star hotel, but cottage #3 is a run down...
