During the day, and morning, the mosquitoes were absolutely horrible. My parents got 50+ bites all together, so I recommend bug spray and mosquito essence / candles!

However, that was the only downside. The campsites were well spaced, the people were all very nice, and there was abundant wildlife! During our 1-night stay, we saw many chipmunks and squirrels, a fox (multiple times) that came within 10 feet of us, and a big black bear that came into our camp. We were sitting around the fire bowl in the morning, turned around and there was a bear on the outskirts coming towards us. He was pretty docile, and easily scared off. The lake was gorgeous, completely calm, no sticks in the water, a sandy beach, and a gorgeous dock. I'm always hesitant to swim in lakes (I'm from the ocean) but the dock went out onto the lake far enough that you couldn't see the bottom and it was amazing for jumping off! No leeches, nothing scary, warm water, truly perfect. The lake is home to lots of fish, frogs, water bugs, etc. it's great for kids to catch minnows!

The drive is mostly paved road until the pullout, then it's about 1.5 km of flat dirt. If you can get over a speed bump, you can...

A good friend of mine and I decided it was time to go camping he doesn't do a whole bunch of camping but we're both in the same sort of mindset of getting something private so that we can have lots of fun and make sure that we're in nature. We both were flying by the seat of our pants and we didn't book anything in advance when we were adventuring to meet in Golden. He searched through several different campsites eventually coming to Cedar Lake and decided it was the one! It was out of the way it was a rustic I had no power just 20 campsites a beautiful Lake really nice nature and way too many mosquitoes! The bathrooms are nice and the area I felt was well taken care of for how rustic it was. When we got there we learned Not only was it one of the main places for locals to hang out but it has some of the best biking trails in the area so the majority of the people there had really good bikes that's what they are there for. There is also an epic rope swing which will blow most people's minds strongly...

I tented at Cedar Lake Recreation Site for one night while passing through Golden area. The campsites were sheltered and appropriately-sized for my tent.

I did not spend too much time at the beach, but the traffic of visitors indicated that it was a fairly popular place. I took an early morning walk out onto the dock, which offered a serene view of still water surrounded by trees.

Check-in and payment were easy as e-transfer was an option. The outhouse facilities were clean and well-maintained. The only things I would note to a prospective camper are that the bugs are persistent and that the noise of traffic passing by the campgrounds was louder that I expected.

Overall, I definitely would recommend this campground for anyone passing...

Amazingly beautiful set of lakes worth a hike. We rode bikes around and was lovely, easy single-track. Back water no frills camping at its best. Swimming was the warmest we've done. Sadly the mosquito population was off the scale and was a huge struggle tbh. On a different day, and for those lucky enough not to get nailed by the little biters its a great place to spend a day or camp. Can't reserve it though checkout is 12 (i think). We arrived 11.30 and had pick of half a dozen places
