Our stay at Purcell Mountain Lodge was nothing short of incredible. From start to finish, the communication with the office team was excellent — everything was clear, timely, and reassuring.

The staff made the experience outstanding. Jasper’s menu preparation and delivery far exceeded our expectations, with every meal beautifully thought out and delicious. Marko’s hosting skills — and sandwich making — were first-rate and shouldn’t be underestimated. Michael and Jason led interesting, varied walks filled with insight and spectacular views. Every member of staff was affable, attentive, and genuinely committed to making our stay special.

The lodge itself is set in a stunning, remote backcountry location. It offers comfortable surroundings, warm showers, and a welcoming atmosphere. If your goal is to truly immerse yourself in a backcountry experience without sacrificing comfort, this is the place to book.

Wildlife encounters made the trip even more memorable — we were lucky enough to see hummingbirds, white-tailed deer, and even grizzlies (including a cub). The night sky was breathtaking, with stars clearer than we’ve ever seen.

While guided walks are available (and highly recommended for their variety and knowledge), we also had the freedom to head out on our own for runs or hikes, which gave us the perfect balance of adventure and independence.

My husband and I visited Purcell Mountain Lodge for a 3-night late summer hiking trip. We didn’t quite know what to expect as we had only done a couple of backcountry hiking trips prior to this one, but it most certainly exceeded our expectations. Everything ran so smoothly – from the pre-trip communications, to the organization of the helicopter flights, to the warm welcome, gorgeous breakfast and group orientation upon arrival. In no time at all, we were out on our first hike of the trip. Our guide Jason (Loree) was absolutely fantastic, providing just the right amount of push to get us to some really incredible viewpoints. We even had the extraordinary experience of seeing a grizzly bear on our final hike of the trip. The bear was thankfully not particularly interested in us and it was a special moment that we will never forget. In addition to the beautiful guided hikes, what really set this lodge apart for us was the fine cuisine. Chef Josef (Mitteregger) far exceeded our expectations with his delicious and creative dishes. Despite all the hiking, I may have actually gained weight on this trip because I just couldn’t say no to anything! I had the incredible opportunity to visit Purcell Mountain Lodge during both the winter and summer seasons, and each experience was nothing short of spectacular. Whether skiing and snowboarding through fresh powder in the winter or hiking and trail running along scenic alpine trails in the summer, every moment at this “Island in the Sky” was unforgettable.

Jackie Mah and her team go above and beyond to create a welcoming and adventurous atmosphere. The combination of cozy, luxurious amenities and the untouched beauty of the backcountry makes Purcell Mountain Lodge truly unique. Plus, the private chef’s food is amazing—each meal was a delicious highlight that perfectly complemented the outdoor adventures.
