It's hard to describe how amazing our trip was to Tweedsmuir Park Lodge, a WOW each and every day.|The incredible service started pre-trip with Sarah and Marty. Sarah spent so much time talking with me about every detail of our trip, addressing all of my (many many) questions with patience and professionalism. She put together a perfect itinerary and helped finding us the best cabin for our stay. A big thank you to Sarah!|When we arrived at the resort it took my breath away, it is UNBELIEVABLY beautiful. We were greeted right off the bus by Annika and Zusana, already feeling like 5-star service. We got a quick tour of the lodge then escorted to our cabin where our luggage was already waiting. WOW again. The cabins are beautiful! Well appointed, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, and stunning views. The housekeeping staff went above and beyond everyday.||Right off we had an amazing lunch. The food, headed up by chef Kathryn, is worthy of any 5-star restaurant (the desserts are off the hook!). There's always a special for breakfast and lunch plus an extensive menu and dinner is 3 courses of delicious food. Mealtime was a favorite.||The resort is run like a 5-star summer camp for adults. Every need is taken care of, every activity is planned out and executed like a well-oiled machine, it was truly amazing to watch and participate in. Everyday there would be a board at the main lodge with your name, activity time, activity and guide. You had breakfast by 9am and got suited up for your morning activity, then lunch and ready for your 2pm activity. It was super fun to meet other guests and as the days went on it just felt like a big family.||The activities are wonderful, the scenery you see every day is another WOW. I've never seen so much natural beauty at every turn. We did 3 river drifts, never got old, a beautiful hike through so many different eco systems, the Via Ferrata was exhilarating and an engineering feat, the bear ecology hikes, well those were life changing. Just sitting at the bear platform for hours was always so relaxing.||The staff is well, another WOW. Every single person is phenomenal at what they do. The front desk staff Annika, Zusana, and Kate (who was so patient with my teasing, Kate you're the best) are in control of an enormous amount of scheduling and guest needs.|Dining room staff were always so attentive, and it didn't take long for them to know your name and your preferences.|All the kitchen staff worked together to serve fabulous food every meal.|Guides were super knowledgeable, professional and fun. Our two main guides were Shanti and Tamar who made our excursions so fun.||Now there are some standout employees who we connected with that just made our trip one of the best we've ever been on.||Doug, our fearless bus driver and Bella Coola savant. Doug is a true GEM. The time I spent with him was some of the best and he was always fascinating with his interesting facts. Can't wait to spend more time with him when we come back.||The incomparable Ellie Lamb, bear whisperer. My bear walks with Ellie were life changing, her passion for the bears, her knowledge and conservation work to protect these amazing animals is admirable. My view of this land and the bears has forever changed because of Ellie.||Rupert! So much to say about this man. Rupert seems to run everything. He is on 24/7, managing the guides and making sure everything is running smoothly. He's very undercover and you wouldn't realize he's extremely accomplished. He engineered the Via Ferrata and a spicy ramp up 80ft to a tree with viewing platform, along with snow and climbing experience he's also an accomplished IMG guide, basically a world class certified mountain guide (he's going to kill me for blowing his laid-back cover). My husband and I had an instant connection with Rupert. We were with him every day in some way and by the end he felt like a family member, he really an incredible human being.||Clearly Tweedsmuir captured my heart in a way took me by surprise, I can't stop talking about it. We travel extensively and I can say this is one of the best trips I've taken. Thank you to everyone and we'll see you next year if you can handle us!|Mateo...
Read moreStayed here three nights in October. Overall, beautiful lodge with wonderful facilities considering the remote location. The food and drinks were good and I liked that they had a snack station and hot drinks to take away on trips. The bar staff were exceptional.
The reason it doesn’t deserve five stars is for the poor value for money and the hospitality of the guides and maintenance staff.
First, we had an issue with the outside lights of our cabin, which shone into our room all night. The blinds in the room were too thin but the bar staff on duty did offer us blankets to put over the windows and provided sleeping masks. I understand that lights are essential for safety but making them automatic and having thicker curtains in the rooms is something I would expect for a place that prides itself in providing excellence.
The other thing that irked me was the gratuity form that was slipped into our room on our last day. The lodge recommends a tip of CAD 75-100 per guest per day!!! It might be because I come from Europe but I would never expect a place that charges over £1000 per guest per night to ask for this so bluntly. Although, we gave what we thought they deserved, this kind of boldness comes across as rude.
This leads me to the final point.
The guides at the lodge were variable in their enthusiasm and knowledge. We had one guide who looked like he couldn’t be bothered. He told us that he doesn’t like speaking when going down the river drifts, so we spent our first day feeling awkward.
The guide on our second day was friendly and knowledgeable, so at least then we got to learn more about the valley then.
Overall, I’d say I’m disappointed with the nature tours here. All we were offered was walks and river drifts. While that in itself is not bad, the level of detail in which they were provided was poor. For the price, I’d also expect a lot more choice in activities and flexibility in timing.
We did see some bears, which was cool but that was about it. Although we had a good time and saw some beautiful things, I wouldn’t say this lodge is special considering some of the other places I...
Read moreWe went to Tweedsmuir Park Lodge with high expectations given the reviews and it’s safe to say our experience was even better. From the moment you arrive you’re made to feel like you’re part of a family, the staff are so welcoming, the lodge itself is beautiful and feels like you’ve walked into someone’s country home. The park is other worldly, you really feel like you’ve stepped back to a time where nature hasn’t been spoilt by the greed of man. The lodge has been designed so even when you’re having lunch or a coffee on the terrace you can still spot bears - we saw two walk past during our stay! ||Our chalet was simply beautiful, it had all the modern luxuries of a five star hotel with the rustic charm in-keeping with the beautiful surroundings. It really does something special to your soul just to sit on the veranda and watch the wildlife in such a peaceful location. ||What can we say about the activities? Simply perfect. We did a couple of river drifts and a few guided hikes. The guides are so knowledgeable. They know the terrain like it’s the back of their hand and can tell you exactly which bear you’re looking at (they all have names!) We were so lucky to have a couple of incredible bear encounters during our stay. It felt a real privilege to be able to witness such magnificent beasts just going about their daily lives, catching and eating salmon from the river and exploring the forest. ||As real foodies we were a little apprehensive about staying somewhere we had no other option but to rely on for our meals. Well, the food is better than first class! We’ve had the luxury of eating at Michelin restaurants around the world and the evening meals at Tweedsmuir Park Lodge could rival them, simply outstanding. There are multiple options for lunch, we were annoyed we weren’t staying longer so we could try them all! And breakfast is one of champions, it really sets you up for the day. There’s a treat cart available all day that’s stocked with savoury/sweet snacks and fruit. You never go hungry! ||There’s just two words to sum up Tweedsmuir Park Lodge -...
