If you are lucky enough to land a spot at Green Point, you will not be disappointed! The campground is simply magical! The new bathrooms / shower houses are impeccable. Clean, nicely updated and modernized ... all around a great experience. Some things you should know about this place though: It books up FAST! We noticed several people moved campsites every day which is likely a result of not being able to get a spot for the time they wanted (clever if you ask me actually). The campground is dark thanks to the glorious forest it is situated in. It is very challenging to dry anything you leave out so keep that in mind (we just took ours with us and hung them to dry on the outside of our vehicle when we went to the beach). The campground practices the 'Bare campground' policy which means you cannot leave anything out but the basics (think tent, camp chairs, bikes, paddle boards), but things like water jugs, table cloths, any bins, must be stored in your vehicle or trailer. While slightly annoying, I understand the reasoning behind it. There was a bear just outside the campground every day and this program likely prevents him from wanting to enter the campground (which if he did he would either need to be relocated or killed). The campground is a one way loop so pack your patience if you are in the higher numbered sites (we always enjoyed the drive around though). If you can, book one of the higher numbered sites as they are further away from the highway (not sure if the closer to the highway sites hear traffic ... I imagine they would). While some of the sites are on the ocean side, there appeared to be very thick vegetation between the site and the view so the sites on the other side of the road are just as lovely (you can still hear the ocean at night)! || As of the date of this review, their was a campfire ban therefore firewood and ice were not being sold. The beach is absolutely STUNNING!! The sunsets even more beautiful. There are two lovely paths down to the beach BUT prepare yourself, we called them the 'leg burners' with reason! Also bring head lamps or flashlights because sections of the paths were in darkness even during the day (again thanks to the lovely forest!). There also appeared to be a path to Combers beach near the 'leg burner' trail by the entrance to the campground. We found it on our last night and didn't get a chance to check it out. I highly highly highly recommend this place .... actually, to ensure I can book her again in the future and prevent you all from booking it ... it was a horrible place and I would not recommend it at all ;)...
Read moreProbably the best oceanfront government campsite in BC, at least on the island / south coast. Bathrooms and showers great. Beach access 3min walk downhill from campsites (5min uphill on return, if lugging heavy gear make that 10min). Long Beach park speaks for itself, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.||Since this is a national park, my only negative observations were, staff are generally cold and unfriendly (very "government employee" vibe you detect immediately). Checking in, the employee at the booth was very unwelcoming. It actually made our arrival very weird (never having been here) and questioning if we were going to even like it here? Especially when you haven't set foot yet even in your site and feel like you're already in trouble with the staff just for arriving? Like other reviews have mentioned, the rules here are excessive and strictly enforced. Frankly it's overkill and they've forgotten what the point of this campsite is supposed to be, people and families getting to enjoy nature. Concerns over "a bear in the area" are valid but running around in electric carts and confiscating peoples EMPTY small 2 burner propane stoves because there COULD be an odour on the stove is overkill and just bums people out. I don't even have to make an argument on this point, just look to the number of other campsites that would do this (having visited probably over 60? unique sites in Canada/US)...the answer is 0 campsites have this protocol. ||So if you can handle that at times your entire family might not be able to all go to the bathroom at the same time or go see the sunset because you've still got some CLEAN dishes out that have to be put away first (otherwise they will literally be stolen by the staff while you're gone), then you'll still love it here. You just have to give up and comply to the government over-regulation and overall unfriendliness of the staff. ||The good news is you can ignore them, just don't do anything to attract their attention (look at their brochure, look at their rules, follow it) and you'll have a great time, hopefully never having to...
Read moreWe spent 6 wonderful nights at this campground starting on August 6th. I’ve camped in many spots across BC, and this was my favourite yet. The beach was absolutely beautiful and very uncrowded. We appreciated the signs which warned us to be careful about riptides and unpredictable waves and currents so that we were reminded to be careful in the ocean. My kids really enjoyed the nightly shows at the theatre. The Parks Canada staff who presented at the shows were very knowledgeable. My kids (ages 10 and 12) especially enjoyed the presentation “Pirates of the Intertidal”. The presenter was passionate and knowledgeable about the topic- and my son went down to the beach the next day at low tide to test out what he learned during the show. We also appreciated the large sinks to wash our dishes and the warm and clean showers. During our trip, our vehicle had mechanical failure and had to be towed to Port Alberni-the Park staff were very helpful and helped us transporting our coolers and food to a bear-safe storage area by the front gate while we awaited our...
