Beautiful backcountry campground in Garibaldi Park. The vistas re absolutely amazing even on a day with hail, sleet and snow. The campground has an outhouse and a bear cache. It appears that the original bear locker has been removed as of early October 2021 and they will install bear caches with ropes to pull your bags up (not sure if that’s a good option given how windy it is up there). There are 20 tent spots most of which have a rock barrier to protect from the winds. You still want to make sure to have a sturdy tent as the campground is quite exposed and it can be quite windy up there. We had winds with up to 80km/h when we were there. We hiked in via Singing Pass Trail which makes for about 15km and 1300m of elevation gain from the parking lot (#4) to the campground. It’s a beautiful trail with a smooth gradual uphill which makes for a pleasant hike. We hiked back via Musical Bumps and that’s absolutely stunning too, but if you don’t download with a lift you will face a steep downhill for the last 6km.

This is such a beautiful hike, and so rewarding when you arrive. But be prepared for a long up and down hike to get there. We are experienced hikers and fit but it still took us 4.5 hours from the top of Peak Chair to get there. Also the hike out is just as challenging. We were carrying about 40 lb packs so that contributed to our time in and out. In case you didn't know the beautiful Kees and Claire memorial hut (more like a backcountry mansion)is just about 10 minutes from the lake and you can book to stay there for $60 per person. It is amazingly well equipped with full heat and gas cooking kitchen, mattresses and great space. But the guests need to hike down (and back up) to the lake to get water. We chose the old fashioned tent camping option which was perfect for us!

Tons of fun! Russet lake is beautiful. Bear cache and outhouse are right there beside the sites. Loved the long hike and stunning sunset! Recommend route - Upload Blackcomb Gondola, Peak to Peak across to Whistler Mountain, then hike over Musical bumps to Russet lake. ~4-5hr. Descend via Singing pass trail. ~3-4hr. (if you are willing to pay for Whistler Blackcomb sightseeing ticket. ~$85 per person.) You could reverse this plan and not need to pay to download the gondola. Enjoy!
