Rude staff. Felt unwelcome from the beginning. We are responsible pet owners who control our dogs, but we were treated as we were guilty from the beginning. Gave us a interrogating speech threatening that if anything happens s the dog will be impounded. We have a dog run up for the weekend and they were under control and on the gravel campsite. Then on our last day, a woman training someone decides it's not ok, and the dog has to be on a 6ft leash. She says it's a BC parks rule and they cant make exceptions. We obliged, even though it's a cruel rule. I left a comment card saying our feelings, and was confronted by the original male manager who came racing to our site in his pickup saying he was very offended. He gave me the rules and said the dog must be on a 6ft leash. He admitted that he made an exception for us but never offered to resolve it in a decent way. I looked at the rules and it says the operator may make exceptions, so they were making us do it just because they felt they have power over someone. Never did the dogs misbehave, leave the gravel, or act aggressive to anyone. It was not relaxing and you were always waiting to hear when you did something wrong. Felt like being in a communist country. By far the worst experience at a BC park and I will never be back. The province should look at restaffing this park with common sense,...
Read moreThe people and Kaloya Contracting who employs them are anything but hospitable, don't matter which park you go to that they manage they'll use whatever rule they can to draw every bit of dollar out of you. For example in July they wanted is to pay an extra $22/day because we had an extra 16.5 year old teenager in our group above the max amount allowed, also they'll always charge you for an extra vehicle even when the total occupants on the site is only 4 or less. We understand rules and that they have to be followed, but this company pushes all their employees to the max to enforce only the ones that creates extra income, this we experienced grom several parks they look after. There is a better way to balance this, but when you are blinded by the greed for money you won't even notice this. This day and age when it's increasingly hard to get families and youth out and away from all the modern distractions of society we should be encouraging people coming, instead of creating bad vibes with such a strict management...
Read moreWe stayed in campground only one night as the mosquitos were intense (according to park ranger the worst in years probably due to all the rainy spring and early summer of 2022) but it was the smoke from the campfires that made me decide not to stay for the second night. At sunset you could see the campfire smoke hanging over the lake. It was warm enough to need the windows open in our camper and it took until 2 am for it to dissipate enough that I felt I could breath normally. We were in spot #18 in the middle of the campground, so don't know if that had anything to do with it. Wood smoke is actually bad for your lungs and the environment but culturally the "thing" to do while camping. We carry a propane fire ring.
The lake was nice for kayaking and there was very little boat traffic. If you don't count the dock area, there are few beaches on which to land and the trees and bushes go right up to the water's edge (maybe again the lake was really full from all the rain?) Didn't see any wildlife except a...
