Worst Experience that we have had at Tamihi East on Thanksgiving weekend 2018 for the last 10 years! The camp Host was Brutal. The campsite just adjacent to us started their amplified karaoke machine in the afternoon and it didn’t stop till 11:00 PM. They were smoking dope and drinking to the point that they was stumbling around. Early in the evening we went to speak to the camp host, since we couldn’t hear ourselves talking around our own fire. She was less than helpful as she was on her way to the party and campsite with a tray full of Jell-O shots. She told us that her regulars weren’t any problem and quiet time was 11:00 pm. We are very aware that quiet time is 11 o’clock but displayed on the camp ground rules it states be considerate of others in the campsite. Sitting around a campfire singing would be fine but since it was amplified we couldn’t even hear our own music sitting right beside us playing quietly. I went to speak to the camp Host at Tamihi West earlier in the evening and they said unfortunately there is nothing they could do about the partying. The next morning I went to Thurston Meadows and talked to the Camp Host there. I was told she was the supervisor in charge. Showed her videos of the evening the level of music and asked to have somebody contact me, two months later nobody has. Our neighbours at the campground that weekend just spoke to the host at Thurston Meadows December 6th asking about the issues that weekend and inquiring if the same host was still there. The response from her was if you weren’t happy and don’t like it you should find somewhere else to Camp. You seem to be the only ones that complained . I guess she forgot about me speaking to her in her office and the video that I sent of them partying. I have posted the video on Facebook on the Tamihi Facebook site for everyone to take a look at.On top of Campsite fees, we have to pay full price(another full Campsite Fee)for anybody visiting or if our spouses come later and have an additional car, there’s no garbage pick up also ! Too bad there wasn’t any other choices...
Read moreI camped here with friends last weekend and had an amazing time. We brought tents and found a great site with lots of tree cover for shade and privacy. The best part was being right by the river — we fell asleep to the sound of the water and woke up to birds singing. It was incredibly peaceful and quiet the whole time, just nature all around us.
We spent most of our time relaxing, hanging around the campfire, and enjoying the views. The tree canopy kept things cool during the day, and it was the perfect spot to unwind.
There’s no cell service out here, but honestly, that was one of the best parts. It gave us a chance to really unplug and enjoy the moment without distractions.
A heads-up: the road in is gravel with a lot of potholes, so drive carefully, especially if you don’t have a high-clearance vehicle.
If you’re looking for a quiet, scenic camping trip away from everything, I’d definitely recommend Chipmunk Peninsula. I’ll be going...
