Two stars for the amazing scenery
But the customer service was disappointing to say the least. We booked two nights in the Naiset Huts (300$), flew gear in and out (310$), bought six fire logs (42$), drinks and souvenirs (100$+) but still got told we weren’t guests and treated as such.
We got to the lodge after hiking 27km in the rain and thunderstorm, soaked to the bone and pretty miserable. While they were really nice to offer us a warm tea, they told us to drink it outside in the cold wet rain because we weren’t lodge guests. We then picked up the gear we flew in, and Claude told us our packaging was a big zero and that we were amateurs. I did switch my food from my cooler to a reusable bag after reading on their website that rigid container would not be accepted. He mentionned a wine box was the best but it doesnt say so anywhere on the website so how are we supposed to know?
We then asked for the weather forecast for the next day (which we checked before leaving but knowing how fast it changes in the Mountains we figured we’d doubled Check to plan our hiking accordingly) and he basically responded in a very sarcastic way that it would be a beautiful A1 day. Clearly the question annoyed him. My boyfriend wanted a beer after a miserable hiking day and the request was refused because they didn’t accept cards at that time, but then proceeded to accept my card to pay for the flown in gear and the fire logs?
We then got Walked to our cabin by a switzerland guy, we very nicely asked again if he had any information on the next day forecast and the answer we got was « dont be a pain in my ass » …
All in all a very beautiful area but i would recommend camping because spending so much money in a business who will treat you like dog shit will feel disheartening. They were absolutely nice to their lodge guests but not to us. At the end of the day we are still injecting money in the business and deserve to be treated accordingly. Plus, the reason Why we booked a hut is because the lodge was full. I’ve been in the hospitality industry for 15+ years and i treat all of the guest equally, regardless of how much they pay or how long they stay. Everybody showing up deserve to get a positive experience despite their budgets or time limitations. Just food...
Read moreWow, where to start… The hiking trails are absolutely breathtaking, offering views that are beyond belief. The guides are not only knowledgeable but also share captivating stories that make the adventure even more enjoyable. The food is top-notch—they were more than accommodating with dietary restrictions. The cabins are cozy, and the hot showers are available around the clock.||The alpine fishing was incredible; the fish were biting so fast that I nearly got bored waiting for a cast. ||The entire staff goes above and beyond, ensuring you have everything you need, including generous seconds on meals.||Just a quick tip: being in a mountain location means the weather can change suddenly. Be prepared for rain or snow at any time, even in summer, so pack accordingly—it’s your responsibility to be ready. ||For a live view of current weather conditions, you can check out the webcam at Assiniboine Lodge webcam. I tried to link it directly but it was disallowed. I found it helpful to check out to see if there was still snow. ||Thank you for delivering such a fantastic experience. We loved every moment and can’t...
Read moreAt the end of July 2024, our group of four backpacked into Mt Assiniboine Provincial Park. The first night we stayed at Og Lake, then day hiked to Lake Magog. While hiking near Lake Magog, one of our group fell and thought she had twisted her left ankle badly (later confirmed to be a fractured fibula). Because we were close to Assiniboine Lodge, we sought help from the Lodge staff. The staff (and Jurrik in particular) were simply golden in making a bad situation manageable, and providing us advice, support, some much appreciated humour, and ultimately, arranging for two of us to be helicoptered out of Assiniboine Lodge back to Canmore. Jurrik checked on our injured person repeatedly to ensure her condition remained stable, provided an area to set up a tent until the helicopter flight, and all of the BC Parks team were so helpful and friendly - finding time to help us while attending to the needs of the guests at the Assiniboine Lodge. Thank you so much for turning around a very bad experience into one which we can look back at now with a smile...
