I recently returned from a 3 night stay at Grail Springs, and already look forward to the time I can return! With incredible attention to detail and focus on restorative healing and comfort, Grail Springs definitely provided a restful, health focused and nourishing experience that I wanted and needed. If you’re looking for a place to party, this isn’t it. But if you are looking to disconnect from the everyday hustle and reconnect with yourself in an environment that’s focused on rejuvenating your mind, body and general health, this is definitely the place you want to be! In fact, many guests were there solo for self care. The overall vibe of property respects its natural surroundings, embodying true peace and quiet. The grounds are stunning, with many areas and trails to explore. With no motorized vessels permitted on the lake, it was nice to just relax by the water and watch otters playfully swim. I didn’t get a chance to paddle board, but it’s definitely on my list for when I return. My room was perfectly appointed and the bed was extremely comfortable. There was also a sound machine with soothing zen music. You can tell every detail was curated with purpose and intention for rejuvenation. If you are looking for indoor relaxation in a common space, The Great room was also super comfortable with its oversized couches and wall to wall windows to bring the outdoors, in. The outdoor hot tub, cold plunge and sauna are an easy sign up to reserve your personal time to use these amenities. I didn’t know what to expect with 3 Vegan meals and afternoon snack provided per day, but WOW!! The presentation, portions, flavour and nutrient profiles were incredible. I have a whole new appreciation that a plant based diet can be extraordinary, and filling. I especially appreciated that food sensitivities are taken into account for each guest. There are many spa services that you can book to enhance your experience as well. The salt room, aromatherapy massage, water therapies to name a few. Staff are very welcoming, friendly and accommodating to make your stay as comfortable and restorative as possible. As someone who lives day to day on my phone, and technology in general, I was surprised how easily I was able to disconnect. I captured some pics of the experience to share it, but otherwise happily left my phone in my room. It’s hard to say which part was my favourite because it was all healing in its own way. The grounds, the accommodation, the food, the peace, the services and workshops. If you’re looking for a holistic wellness retreat to immerse in self care and truly rejuvenate, Grail Springs is it!!

Grail Springs Retreat Centre for Well Being fit the bill for a tranquil weekend getaway. It’s a small property that had about 18 guests over the Victoria Day long weekend - hurrah to no lines at check-in or having to hustle to find a chair. Of course, their outdoor “spa” facilities are no where near the calibre of sites Scandinave or Vetta. The miniscule jet less soaker tubs that make up the “water circuit” and warm-up-yourself infrared sauna could resemble ones you’d find at someone’s cottage. Yet, that’s not why you come to Grail Springs. After experiencing it for the weekend, it’s the fact that there aren’t too many things to do that makes the stay attractive. I didn’t feel like I had to go from place-to-place or task-to-task (apart from the morning breakfast, spa treatment, then yoga timetable). It’s why when speaking to other guests, they choose to go back solo for progressively longer stays. It’s not about the amenities but finding time to relax and unwind. It’s a place where if you go by yourself there are tons of other guests doing the same, so it doesn’t feel weird. Consequently, if you’re not there for the immersion pool and sauna, what is there to do? I highly recommend the spa treatments. They’re pricey but was one of the better treatments I’ve had at an out-of-town destination. When the weather is nice and the black flies are at bay, the outdoor lake-side property and trails are also a draw. Yet, when all else fails, it’s nice to just sit in their Great Room and read or talk to people. It’s also a great place to BYOB (bring your own board) if you’re into games. But, onto the food – my focus here at Gastro World. It’s all inclusive and there’s no choice so everyone eats the same meal (with consideration for allergies). Everything is vegan, but delicious thanks to a new chef that has recently joined the team. Just be mindful that Grail Springs tends to serve a substantial breakfast and lunch, a small snack in the afternoon, and ends with a light dinner. We didn’t realize the progression upon checking in on Friday and proceeding to dinner, it was really scant after hours of driving. It started with a not overly exciting green salad that was nevertheless refreshing and incorporated a tasty maple balsamic dressing that was balanced and not too acidic. This is a long review check out Gastro World for the rest.

Solo trip in October 2020. Large parking. The grounds were beautiful. The entire place oozed wellness and tranquility. I loved my room on the 2nd floor. It was so cozy I spent hours reading by the fireplace. I especially loved the essential oil diffuser with relaxation music and the incredibly comfortable Sensi slippers. My stay would be 5 stars if there were more activities and options for larger meal portions. There weren't many opportunities to socialize with other guests so I was a little bored. I participated in yoga classes and horse meditation, explored all the nearby trails by myself and on the guided hikes, attended the evening workshops, got a facial and massage, took a canoe out on the lake, used the outdoor hot tubs, and still had time to finish 3 novels. The feeling I got was that guests were mostly there for detoxing and the spa. I needed a little more. The meals were delicious. Every meal is served with a specialty tea. It's clearly marked on the website that there's no coffee so you shouldn't be surprised. I'm an active vegetarian (not detoxing nor looking to lose weight) and the meals were just not enough to sustain me. I was always hungry. The single snack of the day was a smoothie shot and single cookie/energy ball so that wasn't enough to compensate. The wonderful waitress noticed and offered "double" portions in the later part of my stay, but I still needed the dried up emergency protein bars from the bottom of my purse. It's also kind of embarrassing to have to ask for more. I would go back if I knew I wouldn't have to worry about food.

I booked a 3 night stay last minute and decided NOT to read any reviews on Google or TripAdvisor until I returned home - maybe I should have read the pros and cons from various sources first...??? Two nights would have been sufficient to go through various body/mind, holistic, relaxation treatments. I'm sure the owner is going to jump out at me as soon as I post this 3 star review, but let me explain my reasoning - bullet points at the bottom - so read through please.

The room with fireplace and queen bed was spacious and comfortable - bathroom decent size with a large corner tub. The TV in the room is archaic and operating "Jellyfin" app to see channels was a joke - but hey....you are not supposed to be in your room, right, but when you are paying well in excess of $550/night, there are certain expectations....you can only spend so much time in public spaces! The staff all extremely helpful and friendly - can't say enough about them.

I met many first timers along with a lady returning for the 5th time. The owner has been running the place for 30 years BUT the property is up for sale. Maybe some changes will be made?? I would love to see updates to the menu. The website advertises all snacks and meals are included, however, there is one snack served each day exactly at 3:45 pm and it is just one sweet piece and a tiny glass of the daily 'elixir' - but you are allowed to have just one glass!! Lunch and dinner are 3 course pre-set vegan menus (they do take gluten intolerance into account). Breakfast offerings on 2 of the 3 mornings were sweet (like waffles) - not good if you don't have a sweet tooth - so toast was the only other option. Having visited resorts across the globe with wellness in mind - healthy food is a HUGE part of the process, but why must it be vegan only? Having no meal selection for lunch or dinner was disappointing, but I guess with just 13 rooms on site you cannot offer a full menu to guests. I drove home and stopped by the grocery store for a big piece of fish for protein tonight (.....sigh.... yum).

Other items on my mind: none of the people offering treatments are RMT. The BRIGHT spot was Sandi offering Thai Massage (which is extra) - but 100% worth it. Sign up sheets for hot tubs and sauna?? The space on the deck is massive and the tubs are teeny tiny. Sign up sheet for hiking a trail? If you don't show up for dinner on time - they will knock on your door.... Treatments depend on which program you signed up for, but lying on a magnetic mat for 30 mins with headphones on to cleanse the body...? Not sure it was worth it or did anything....maybe you just need to believe??? Scheduling of treatments. My first day was booked with 4 treatments back to back to back to back. Had to fit in a nature walk, breakfast and morning yoga that were there anyway. I managed to move one treatment to the second day, as it was hectic. They take the control of booking your appointments away from you - I do NOT agree with this. I like to know what treatments are planned for the duration of the stay at check-in time - not the morning of the day with a little card set outside the breakfast room that you. Lack of fitness facilities. I believe that overall wellbeing includes physical fitness along with great food, quiet time, yoga and other modalities of treatments. Sitting around and enjoying treatments and vegan foods did not address the need for working off the lunch and building an appetite for dinner. With a 100 acres of land - there is so much space.........

In summary, lots of money for a place...
