Stayed for one night for a last minute booking; consequently getting a queen bed with a couch for two people and a dog. The high rating is for the great service I was given at the short amount of time my friend and I was staying. Rachel (she seems to be running the reception only) was extremely helpful and accomodating. She was patient in explaining the policies and rules. We were also travelling with medium/large dog so we paid a deposit that would be refunded if the room was in order (nothing damaged, broken, etc.) I love this method as the other motels my friend and I stayed automatically charged us $10-$40 for bringing a dog. Most humans are incredibly messy in hotels compared to a trained and carefully watched dog. So I found the deposit method very fair and effective for both the motel owner and dog-owner/guest. Before checking out Rachel called the housekeeper to check the room and soon enough I got my deposit back painlessly. I also lost the room key so a $10 charge was made which is understandable. She said to mail the key if found and I'd be refunded which I am still trying to find. The lack of a perfect rating was the motel itself. Quite dingy and the smell I immediately got opening the door was stale and old wood/furniture. Maybe not the most family friendly as the first thing that showed when I turned on the television was a porn movie. I found it humourous but my friend unfortunately did not. The other channels are great as it has the local cable channel and a movie commercial-free channel. Our bathroom was clean with the usual toiletries and clean towels but the handle for the hot water on the faucet was missing. Beautiful garden with lots of seating and great neighborhood but saw some odd characters go in and out of the motel. 25-30min drive to downtown Montréal which my friend and I found easy to maneuver about as the motel was right beside a large and major road. I would stay here again but I'll be smarter to book ahead, and know whoever your travelling with is comfortable and chill with cheap motels, so someone who isn't super high-maintenance. Would recommend if you're just passing by Montréal...
Read moreNote: I rated this "VERY GOOD" for the low-budget motel category. Average at best compared to other places, but very good considering the price and other comparable low-budget places, ||||Mostly clean and everything worked - this may not seem like something to point out in a review, but my many experiences in the budget motel circuit have been a shocking eye-opener of mold, dirt, grease, bugs, broken things, missing things, loud neighbors, gross room misrepresentation and terrible service. So when something this inexpensive actually works fine, it's a noteworthy day.|| ||There was a small mold problem on the baseboards and a little bit on the caulking in the bathroom, but overall everything else was just fine for this budget bed. The furniture is dilapidated and there's no decor - the V-wood ceilings remind me of a summer camp bunkhouse for kids - but what can you expect for $59/night plus tax? No dirty carpet is a plus, they have clean laminate flooring. The bathroom was actually really nice, renovated and modern with a deep soaker tub. The bed was comfortable, there was a convenient microwave and small fridge, a desk. The TV cable selections were few and boring, mostly news channels and French language stations, but at least I could amuse myself with the Donald Trump / Hillary Clinton scream-a-thons. The free Wi-Fi was excellent, strong signal, no issues connecting or staying connected.||||BIG PLUS: Pets allowed !! The desk guy later tried to extort an additional $5 per pet cleaning fee from me in cash after I checked in, but nothing about that was advertised on the website and I refused to pay. He didn't argue the point. In spite of that, he was still a nice guy and the rest of the staff were very pleasant.||||The little garden in the back is a nice little touch. Cute pagoda, lots of seating and a view of the river and Montreal skyline in...
Read moreAgain, let us be reasonable with our expectations, when paying $70.00 CDA for a motel room. Is this a good place for this amount? Absolutely. The location is awesome, 15 kms out of Montreal on the south shore, right on the canal. It is only a short drive to most of what makes Montreal awesome to visit. Staff here are outstanding, as the front-desk lady was lovely and friendly. The room is interesting, and feels and looks like an old cabin. No carpet, thank goodness. There is a sitting area with couch and table, along with a microwave and fridge. The bed in our room was tucked perhaps too tightly against the wall, and was very soft. The bathroom was also jammed in beside the bed area, but inside was clean and serviceable. The room was absolutely toasty when required, as there are baseboards everywhere, needed because Montreal's winters are terribly cold. The room was very quiet, too. The flaws? Okay, it is tight, and furniture is dated. The t.v. is very good; however, it is easily the most complex process to make it work. Seriously. Despite copious notes provided in the room, we had many problems. Maybe it is complicated to make it harder to access the free adult channels. Which brings us to the 'hourly' rate of the motel, or whatever the half-price rate is for, displayed on their sign. This didn't trouble us, but others might take offense; like the adult channel access, as noted in other reviews. We couldn't care less. Welcome to Montreal! Prices rise slightly in summer, apparently, but with appropriate expectations, this place is a good deal. We...
