We were going to stop here to camp for the night on our way south. The lady at the front was very nice and friendly. We ask about the rates for the night at was told $85 for full hook ups. We passed on the full hook ups and saw they offered boondocking sites. Since we are fully self contained so we opted for boondocking. We were directed to the back loop of the property and was told to pick a site and report back. I was pulling a fifth wheel. The boondocking area had many low branches and the road was very narrow in places. One branch broke off on my solar panel. My wife had to get out and hold a branch away from the RV so it didn’t scrap the side. I was lucky I didn’t tear my roof. The trail was also extremely dusty and we came back out of the short loop completely dirty. I went to one of their water spigots and washed all the dirt off my RV and truck. I then had to get on my roof and inspect for tears and remove broken branches and sweep off all the pine needles. Why didn’t the lady warn us of the narrow road and low hanging branches. When drove another 200kms and stayed at a provincial campground which was cheaper and had much better sites.
Update: I got up on the roof for a closer inspection and yes my roof has been damaged. I’ve got a nice little tear in the TPO roof. Thanks Black Sheep Camp.
Second update
I do t have a clue what the owner is talking about in her explanation. I was not told anything about the roads to the boondocking sites being narrow. I was not told about the sites being only for smaller units and I was not offered any other sites other than the full service sites for $89. I wasn’t even asked about what our unit was but was handed a map and go find a site without any warning of how bad and dirty the road was. The only thing she did get right was yes I did stay at the Wasa provincial campground which was just over 40kms south but I was so pissed off that it seemed like 200kms. I highly recommend skipping this place and just stay at the Wasa Provincial park. Nicer, bigger sites and...
Read moreBlack Sheep Camp on the Kootenay River is truly a hidden gem! From the moment we drove in, we were impressed by how new and well-kept everything looked. The atmosphere was inviting, and it was clear that a lot of care goes into maintaining the grounds.
The staff was incredible! The gentleman we met was not only super friendly and energetic, but also very accommodating and flexible. He even shared a bit about himself, including his amusing move from LA to this beautiful spot! He gave us fantastic recommendations, particularly raving about the nearby hot springs, which are definitely worth checking out.
What really stood out was his suggestion to choose a different camping spot than what we originally booked, offering us a more private area. I can't say enough about his attentiveness and hospitality! The facilities were also top-notch—clean, modern, and had a cozy cabin feel. Even the little things, like having the wood delivered right to our site, saved us from having to transport it ourselves, keeping our car free of wood chippings.
The camp offers a range of activities, including boat rentals like canoes, SUPs, and rafts, and they even shuttle you out to a launch area where you can float back to the campsite. We were excited to hear they’re now offering winter camping and glamping tents for those who want an extra touch of luxury. We’re already planning to come back and try both! Prices are comparable to other Alberta sites, but the value you get here—between the cleanliness, friendliness, and all the activities—feels far superior. Highly recommend! If I could I'd...
Read moreCampers be aware they will cancel your reservation without any warning.
We have never been to this campsite and fortunately we never will. I had a campsite booked for this campground for the August long weekend we were travelling through with my family of six which included two babies. My camp site was reserved and paid for in full and they took it upon themselves to cancel my reservation and give it to another camper three days before I was to arrive and already on the road travelling. They didn’t call nor discuss with me any of the cancelation process they canceled it at roughly 8:30 at night and when I tried to call as soon as I got the cancellation confirmation email and no one would answer. When we called in the morning to find out what happened they told us unfortunately it’s now already booked for someone else. We had another campsite booked on our route but decided to visit the hot springs if we could find a camp site. We found one at this campground and then cancelled our other reservations only for black sheep camp ground to cancel ours on us leaving us no where to go for the long weekend. It was a very unpleasant and unprofessional way of operating a business. Other campers need to be aware that even if it’s booked and paid for in full doesn’t mean they won’t cancel it...
