Great campground in Killbear Provincial Park! We came for a week to enjoy the trails and take in the area, and this was a perfect spot to spend our evenings unwinding after a day of hiking and exploring. Campsites were pretty spacious (we fit 2 tents, one that was considerably larger than the other, plus vehicles on our site with lots of room to rearrange the picnic tables and set up chairs by the firepit). The campground prohibits radios, so the site was fairly quiet, especially later in the evenings. There are a couple of smaller washrooms located on each side of the campground, with a central comfort station containing washrooms, showers, and a laundry area, so there's plenty of washroom access. There were also a handful of water taps (which are marked on the campground map inside the park guide), meaning you're never too far from a water source. Busier times would definitely be the weekends, but there are a lot fewer people in on weekdays, which meant a lot of our stay was much less crowded. Watch out at night for raccoons and other wildlife, as you'll hear them passing through sites at night. Park is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. Highly...
Read moreWhile we have been camping at Killbear many time in the past 25 years or so, this is the first that I have had a "not so nice experience." Our campsite was good four stars for that. The problem was an infestation of millions of caterpillars!!! They were on everything. Nothing we could do to prevent the waves of these tiny little crawling hairy creatures. We resolved ourselves to the refuge of the camper trailer for much of the time. I don't know how the people in tents managed. There were a lot of people leaving from what i saw. We cut our trip short as well, having tolerated this long enough. Now don't get me wrong, I am an avid outdoors person, and bugs are just one of the things you find outdoors. But, I have never seen this many before. I hope they don't last long, since they have eaten many of the leaves on the big oaks and lots of the other foliage. This is not the fault of the park, just a cycle of nature. I would recommend strongly contacting the park to check the current status of this infestation if you plan to camp here in the next short while.
So I give this trip 3 stars overall, for this trip. Sure next time...
Read moreThis campground is a part of Killbear Provincial Park. Very spacious campground site. Clean toilets, proper commode toilet seats with flushes. There is a beach area next to most of the campground sites. Beach was clean, water was clear and clean too. Beautiful trails around! There is an amphitheatre inside the park where daily some programs happen during summers. We also spotted multiple deers in the park. All in all a good camping experience. We will definitely come next time...
