I am really surprized to see how good reviews of other people are, cause our experience was totally different. I sent an email before we came and was answered that there were lots of campsites out there and we could come. Apparently, the owner was not in a good mood from the very start at 8am in the Saturday morning – not friendly or welcoming at all, nor helpful. He barely said hi, did not introduce himself. I told him that it was the first time that we came to his place for camping and need to learn the rops. Despite that he rather grudgingly and reluctantly answered our questions, said nothing about the price for launching a boat and car parking except that we’d pay tomorrow, also about camping site location - just waived a hand to some direction on the left of the place. He put our boat out to the water, but did not offer any advice how we could load the boat with our staff from the car, having said that he needed to launch a big boat right away and left. When my husband tried to drive our car closer to the marine for loading from the dock he started to shout: “Get out from the water and from here!” Then he pulled our boat out from the water and said that he had enough people there at his place, and did not want us to stay unless we pay $100. Seems like he differentiates people by the amount of money they pay for his service. Probably, the owner of the big boat and those who stay in cottages are more profitable customers. I do not mind to pay any reasonable cost and tips for service, but won’t tolerate being shouted at and kicked off (afterwards, with an option to stay and get ripped off). We were just stunned at such attitude, never been treated like this in my life. We are devoted and experienced campers, travelled lots of places in Ontario and everything was amazing up to this point. Worst experience one...
Read moreWe made a reservation for one overnight canoe rental last weekend (which came to $60 last year for a roughly 24-hour period), but as we were paying at the till, the owner Bill came by and insisted that we pay for 3 days rental because it was the long weekend and that he could easily rent it to other people should we object to the new price of $135... to use a rusty old canoe with splintery particle-board seats for less than 24 hours. It was too late to make alternate arrangements at this point so we had no choice but to accept the last-minute price-gouging. I'd expect this type of shenanigans in a developing country. His daughter apologized afterwards for his unprofessional attitude, but we will not be coming back again.
The place has become quite crowded also, with at least 20 tents within sight of ours, and day trippers constantly walking past our tent (we picked a spot away from...
Read moreI'm surprised that I've even seen the very few negative reviews that I have here. My brother in law took me up to this hidden gem 8 yrs ago, and I was hooked. My family and I have spent 2 summer vacations there, and I've gone spring and fall almost each year since. The cabins are rustic, but A1 clean, and they have everything you need. Bill always takes good care of us, and I enjoy exposing different aqauntainces to the fantastic...
