Peter and Pam are wonderful hosts and groundskeepers. The property and facilities are kept very clean and in order. Peter toiled away every day to keep things looking prim and pristine. The office had a generous selection of things to entertain you during your stay: books, DVD's, popcorn, and even a piano! I must say, as a pianist, it is a well-built piano with a beautiful sound--albeit, a bit out of tune.
My friends and I stayed in the Kawartha Suite, which was very well-appointed with a spacious arrangement. You won't need to bring any cookware or kitchenware as everything was provided: even the paper towels. And if you run out, just get a fresh roll from the office. There was a good Wifi signal, and a large LED TV with satellite, in case you end up having a rainy day indoors. Each bedroom in the suite had direct access onto the porch as well as the vast lawn leading up to the lake. Your own private jacuzzi on the porch was also a very nice treat to have in the late evenings while watching the sun set. The washroom was spacious and clean, and the hot water was plentiful the entire time. It even had its own space heater in case it was chilly in the mornings.
I have to say, my favourite part of our stay was the lake, and just sitting by and enjoying the sound of the birds, occasional loon, and just the sound of the waves gently caressing the shore. There was a hammock, park benches, and plenty of other seating all around, so you could take your pick. My friends did some fishing, and caught quite a bit of perch off of the dock as well as off in the lake with the freely usable boats. It was a bit early on into the season, so I'm sure there would be a greater variety of fish later into the summer.
It was a very peaceful and tranquil getaway from the bustling city. I wish I had taken pictures of the location, but I was just too preoccupied with enjoying everything to even bring out my phone that often. But, you can definitely take my word for it: you won't be disappointed.
Finally, it is worthy to note that Peter and Pam are LGBT-friendly. My two friends are a couple (I was being a third wheel) and we only felt warmly welcomed the entire time. It's nice to know that we have allies even outside of the city.
So, if you are looking for a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle, I would definitely suggest this hidden gem.
Thank you, Peter and Pam, for the wonderful weekend and the...
Read moreI have been coming to Lake Edge since I was 12 years old, long before Peter and Pam took the helm. Back then, it was rather, "rustic", with an outdoor shower building, and cottage heaters in such a condition that made you question if you should chance lighting them. That first year, my dad and I stumbled upon the place by chance. The next summer, we came back for three separate weekends. We didn't always get away every summer, but when we did, it was always to Lake Edge. When I was in my 20s, I moved to Calgary, so by the time I got back to Lake Edge one summer when my new wife and I were visiting Ontario, I was astounded by the improvements. Pam and Peter took a glorified fishing camp and turned it into one of the most beautiful family-and-pet-friendly jewels of the Kawarthas. A yearly summer trip back to Ontario almost always included a few days at Lake Edge. Many of my most cherished memories of time spent with my dad took place in a boat on Katchewanooka. I have shared two romantic New Years in the Kawartha suite, in the hot tub, watching the snow fall, with a glass of champagne in my hand. I have moved back to Ontario, and this summer, when my 10-year-old daughter came to visit me from Calgary, we stayed at Lake Edge, and I passed the torch. The owners, Pam and Peter are friendly, without being intrusive. They pay attention to every little detail to make sure your stay is peaceful and rejuvenating. This is truly THE place to bring your family, significant other, or your dog if you want to experience true cottage-style comfort and hospitality. Hats-off to you, Lake Edge,...
Read moreOur stay at Lake Edge Cottages was perfect. The cottage was fully stocked with everything we could need for the week. We stayed in Dog Daze which is a 2 bedroom and big enough that my family of 4 with 2 nearly adult kids didn't feel cramped. We loved the gated front deck for our 2 little dogs. I have to mention the hot water was definitely hot and had great water pressure. The grounds are beautifully manicured and very clean. Pets are welcome and fortunately everyone cleaned up after their dogs. We brought our pontoon boat and it fit perfectly on the dock right out front of our cottage. The trent waterway is goes right through the lake we were on. This can be both fun to see the big boats and a bit of a pain as the water can get rough. We chose to find it fun and got out there on the kayaks and just enjoyed the lake. Our hosts Steve, Anne and Jacob were extremely nice and welcoming. Anne's mom was very pleasant and I'm sad to say I did not get her name. We explored as much of the area that we could. The turtle pond is lovely just make sure you're fully covered or the mosquitos will feast on you. The pool is so clean and perfect if you're not a lake swimmer like me. We had a great time and will be back. Just an FYI if you bring a boat make sure to back it...
