Just realized we've been going to the White Pines for 17 summers in a row. Our kids have never had a summer or fall without a dip in Black Donald Lake either for fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, or just boating around.||||Owners Val and Shawn Popkie are around when you need them, but the cabins and facilities are so well stocked and cared for that you rarely do.||||We have rented fall weekends, had a trailer on a non-electric waterfront site for three years, and had summer week-long rentals for the past six years.||||Our family has enjoyed all of our time, even the rainy days, at this lovely resort.||||Two of the things that make it extra special for me are:||1 most of the rest of the lake and many islands just offshore are Crown Land (for now), and are great for paddling around, and it's easy to find a space where you can't see or hear any other humans!||2 even thought it's secluded, it's not that far to Calabogie or even to Renfrew.||||We have stayed in all but one of the cabins, and all are well equipped and have lovely views, perfect for our family of four.||||If you like a nice quiet, natural week away, and you can get a booking,...
Read moreThis place is seriously magical! We absolutely fell in love with it and hope to be able to go back again during a different season (maybe to see the resort's world-renowned ice sculptures). Our group of four 30-something adults enjoyed the quiet, the astounding views, the hiking trails, the campfire at night under the stars and the smell of fresh air early in October. And many more things. The fireplace in the cottage....the comfy beds...having all the cooking implements one could possibly need...this place has it all! And a great history too! Also can't pass up the opportunity to say how wonderful the owners are. Valerie saved us from getting stuck without gas at night by refilling our tank! Phew. And helped us when we were in need of some caffeine. Just fantastic. Thanks...
Read moreWe had a few days of fun in the forest at White Pines. The cabins are rustic, clean and cozy, and the setting is spectacular. Our cabin was right by the water and the fall colours were at their peak. We had a very nice time!||||A few observations... Make sure you call ahead to be sure of what you have to bring with you during these times of COVID-19 (e.g. bedding, towels, etc.). You don't want to be caught short because the nearest stores are quite far away. Not that we cared, but there is no television in the cottage and the wifi is slow. Ask for a trail map at the office and make sure to go for walks in the...
