Where do I begin? What absolutely horrible facilities. After reading multiple "great" reviews, my family and I decided to book a vacation at Tam-Bir for a week. When we arrived we were greeted by several glaring... exaggerations when it came to what was offered on the official website.
The "in-ground pool" was little more than a rundown bowl filled with questionable water. The "firepit" was a small, dented hole filled with garbage, and assorted filth. The "individual dock" was horribly maintained, disgusting, and quite frankly looked like it was about to fall into the lake.
So far this was just a little underwhelming; but as soon as my family and I entered the actual cottage itself we were at a loss for words. Though relatively clean, one could hardly call it "well maintained". Two bedrooms that barely fit the old mattress' contained within - and only one bedroom had a door (by door I mean a broken divider that didn't even close).
The bathroom was equipped with a door that didn't close properly and a sink about the size of a measuring cup that didn't drain fast enough and thus overflowed almost instantly. The shower however was chef's kiss NEXT LEVEL. There was a dingy old mat on the floor and a mostly unfinished drywall ceiling. I would quite honestly feel dirtier AFTER I had a shower in that 3x3 box.
I'm not sure where these good reviews are coming from, but maybe the owner simply doesn't maintain cottage #6. It was embarrassing. I understand it's a cottage - and I have stayed in some less than desirable places - but this is one of the worst I've ever seen. I would never recommend this site to anyone. Within 20 minutes of being there we packed up and left. Sure we lost our deposit, but there was no way I was paying the rest of the cost to stay there for a week. Perhaps use my $250 to fix the cottage.
The fact that the sign for the entire site was faded, scratched, and broken should have been our first clue. I'm not trying to be rude with this review. I'm trying to save some people their time and money. Thanks for ruining my family...
Read moreTam-Bir Resort harkens back to the days when cottages were not houses, and that's just the way we like it. Tam-Bir resort has 12 units on the southern shore of Rice Lake. The cottages are not fancy, but they have all the amenities one needs for a great vacation, including TV and WiFi at no extra charge. The cottages would be described as "rustic." They have mismatched furniture, mixed cutlery, place settings, mugs, & glasses. This really is part of the appeal for many people like us. Paddle boats are free, and motorized boats are available daily, weekly, or monthly. There is also a pontoon boat for rent which is great for getting the whole family out on the lake. Rice Lake is a comparatively shallow lake, so it's warm enough for swimming. The fishing is great, and the owner, Will, can tell you the best spots and fishing methods to use. There are many small towns & restaurants nearby. Daily, weekend, weekly, and monthly bookings are available. Tam-Bir is a relaxing resort that's great for families, groups, or fishing pals. Rates are very reasonable. We've always enjoyed our time at...
Read moreThis was our first visit to Tam-bir Cottages and we LOVED it! We can't wait to go back and will recommend it to everyone.
We can't say enough about the owner Will. He goes above and beyond for his guest, treats you more like family. We weren't having the best luck with fishing so he took us out in his boat to his special spots and bammm the fish were almost flying in the boat.
The cottages are rustic, cozy and clean, had everything we needed! The view is spectacular, cottages are close to the water with your own private firepit for those nice relaxing evenings.
Thank you Will, can't wait to...
