Check-in is officially at 4:00 p.m.we arrived about 90 minutes early and were charged an extra $3 per hour, what a surprise. What really surprised us were the fees. The base rate was $62 for high season (very reasonable), but by the time early arrival charges, a $5.65 booking fee, and a $2.60 property fee were added, the total came to $81.70 for one nightover 33% more than the listed rate. And if you use a credit card (which we didn't), there's an additional 2.4% charge. We're not cheapskates, but this is excessive. There's a potential monetary fee if you use the bathrooms without being a registered guest. The site itself was fine: level, clean, and equipped with the standard amenities, and there's plenty of open space. However, there is only one large garbage bin, located across from the office, so waste disposal requires a walk no matter where your site is.The internet is poor. And if you're hoping for a hot shower, it's not happening - be prepared to run the tap for several minutes. Disappointingly, there's no way to conserve water when lukewarm is the best it gets. What felt like hidden charges left a sour note. My husband remarked that next time, he'd simply drive straight through to Thunder Bay rather than stop here overnight. All in all, it's a functional stopover, but we wouldn't return. We camped at Davy Lake Campground and Resort in...
Read moreWe asked for a site close to the washrooms. Though there were many open spots, they gave us what looked to be a driveway next to the washrooms. We arrived at 8 pm after a long day of driving so decided to make the best of it. Big mistake. There was a mound of gravel that stopped us from moving our table out of the branches and no fire pit. We had a parade of people walking thru our site to access the dish washing station behind the washrooms. We expected the parade to the washroom. When I arose early to use the washroom the toilet was overflowing and backed up. No plunger was available in the washroom and the office was still closed at 8 am. I had trouble adjusted hot and cold water in the shower and ended having cold shower as there was no hot water. We mark this campground as a take a pass. I am surprised as it is...
Read moreMany reviews mention the friendly staff. That wasn’t my experience. After phoning for a reservation and paying a deposit I arrived and didn’t notice extra charges till I was set up. We arrived a few minutes before 4:00 so were charged a early arrival fee plus a fee for paying with a credit card. When asked about it they were very rude and said I had been told, which isn’t true. If you come check your bill carefully before paying.
Thank you for responding to my review. I just re-read the confirmation email and it states 4:00pm check in. But does not mention a fee for checking in 30 min early. Both my wife and I were on the phone and neither of us recall any discussion of early check in fees.
The camp ground is quite nice with grassy sites fronting on a small lake. My concern is the approach to extra fees and poor...
