Pros: View is nothing short of magnificent. The grounds are beautiful and private with no adjoining businesses or residences. Staff friendliness was excellent and accomodating. Cleanliness was excellent. General upkeep was excellent. Bed was comfortable. Nice outdoor seating to enjoy the view.

So so: Included breakfast was mixed. On plus side was yogurt, and frozen but tasty raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and variety of toast. The coffee was very good. Not good were the scrambled eggs and ham. We arrived for breakfast at about 8:30, or a half hour before the close of breakfast. I sensed that the eggs and ham had all been prepared at around 7:00 am. By the time we arrived the eggs were completely dried out and the ham was like ham jerky. Neither was edible. This is easy to correct, just cook smaller batches more often! Room size is smallish. No mini fridge. Value for the cost is so so.

Cons: I recommend you don’t reserve a downstairs room. Its more like a basement. That was our original room. There is a window but it’s kinda at ground level. You see the same great view but sort of by looking under the porch floor. I felt a little claustrophobic, but it could also have been intensified by the wood tounge and groove ceiling. It was pretty but made the ceiling feel even lower. I didn’t want to sleep there. Fortunately there was one upstairs room left and the manager upgraded us at less than full fare and we enjoyed the night stay but upstairs is an entirely different vibe from downstairs. I wouldn’t stay there again if I had to be downstairs. This may not be a big deal for you. Wifi was poor. We got a signal in the dining area but no service at all in our upstairs room. This is easily correctable, but they will have to spend some money for a more robust wifi system. I can’t comment on the gourmet dinners you can buy; we had dinner elsewhere. Our overall experience ended up being very good and I would stay upstairs again; with a few tweaks by management it could be excellent in the future, though still...

What a cool little bed and breakfast!!! My wife and I randomly found this on Expedia and booked a room for a night, what a gem!

The staff is super nice, they took in our lost luggage from the airline before we even checked in and had it waiting for us right when we arrived. The rooms are cozy, but easily accommodate two people. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the air conditioner easily cooled the room down since it was a hot day when we stayed.

The included breakfast was simple, but very tasty. Hard boiled eggs, cereal, ham, yogurt with toppings, some fruit. A great way to get started in the morning before a long day of hikes. We did not eat dinner here, but we did take advantage of the on site bar and sat out on the balcony for a few glasses of wine.

Note the inn also has an AMAZING view over the bay and the ocean. We woke for the sunrise at 5:15 up due to clear weather expected. We were not disappointed at all. The sunrise comes up right over the water out in front of the inn and makes for an amazing view. The same can be said for when it sets over the mountains in the evening, though this is a little less dramatic.

The only thing you should keep in mind is there's little to nothing nearby for food/drinks/etc. Absolutely nothing in walking distance. So if you don't want to eat in at the Inn itself be sure to plan ahead and bring it with you because the restaurant closes at 8 and the bar shutters...

Update: Changed to 3 star. Received a call from the hotel. They acknowledged the error and are providing a refund for the difference ** We carefully planned a 15 day trip to the maritimes. We booked this place on Hotels.com and received a confirmation booking for a total price of 276.76. The hotel charged us 319.44. We did not ask for anything extra. Afterwards we reached out to Hotels.com and they said they attempted to reach the hotel for a refund but were unsuccessful so it is unlikely we will receive a refund of the 42.68 over charge. This location was beautiful but the place is in need of some care and not a $320.00 a night stay. This overcharge not being corrected just feels gross, like it is purposely done- read other reviews, this is not the first time this has happened at this establishment. We have used Hotels.com on this trip and this is the ONLY place that charged different than the booking. I wanted to give it a higher rating …maybe 3 star but not correcting an overcharge? This is just so poor. I’d give more stars for the view but this whole area is beautiful. I’d recommend...

Love love LOVED this Inn. As we crested the hill and came up to Castle Rock Inn after a day of driving the Cabot Trail, we grinned and realized we had booked the perfect place to stay! Peaceful area and the Inn overlooks the ocean. Enjoyed an amazing dinner of shrimp & lobster that evening and a lovely continental breakfast the next morning. Some fixtures in the room are a bit dated, but had everything we needed, including an air conditioner (which we used as it was quite hot).Wished we had more time to stay longer! This is the perfect place for a quiet getaway, with Ingonish Beach minutes away. I would definitely come back the next time I visit Cape Breton.

It’s a good inn at a good price. The rooms are as described, they are quiet. The staff is helpful. When we booked there was a claim of a restaurant and bar. There were neither. Breakfast was available. There was a promise of wifi - it was erratic at best, often off, and the explanations changed every time. Having visited, I get it, that this is very rural and service is erratic - but then explain that (as they should’ve done the restaurant) on the site. There was no effort to compensate or make good on the lack of services - because where else can you really go?
