Giving it 3 stars overall just because of my first time experience can certainly prove me wrong next time.
It's hard to say that Berry Hill definitely is the best located campground in Gros Morne National Park. It is located at the centre of Rocky Harbour(5 km away from Rocky Harbour) Being near to the town, gros morne mountain trail, western brook pond, etc. But at the same time, it is far away from the trails on the other side, the discovery centre, tablelands trail, lookout trail, etc. So it is a pretty subjective opinion.
The sites are good. They had kitchen shelter, laundry area, toilets, and showers, although it might be hard for some sites to access due to the distance. One can only wonder how much having all these facilities ×2 can do to this campground as there are lots of people.
I stayed at both the normal sites and the group campsites, so i got two experience both. I actually found the group campsites better as i didn't have to move between sites during the 6 days i was there.
This brings me to the most important part, the service of staff at Parks Canada. What a tremendous service👏👌 going above and beyond in helping the campers. I had a small tent, and moving between 3 different sites in 6 days was challenging, especially due to the rain. The staff offered me to switch it to the group campsite as i didn't have to move between sites and could stay there until i left. The group campsite was less crowded and had its own kitchen shelter, 6 toilets except laundry. But the main drawback of the group campsite is the black flies in the morning and evening. Sucked most of my blood, and they are plenty! Also, the rustic cabins are great when i got the chance to have a look at it.
The staff also helped me find rides to the western brook pond boat tour when they didn't have to, which i am grateful for. The best part of this campground for me is the service of staff, what a tremendous job.
Will be updated...
Read moreGreat campground near Rocky Harbour in Gros Morne. Sites are variable so if like us you have a tent, use the Parks Canada booking site to get an idea of each sites characteristics. You can see both photos and a description e.g. gravel, grass etc.||Only issue we have is what is the point of having rules if they’re ignored by both visitors and staff? For example, no ropes for clotheslines (presumably to avoid damage to trees) – well we saw them on plenty of sites. Only two structures per site – ha you’ve got to be kidding. No wood cutting, just use the wood supplied by the campsite – this was the most disappointing. It wasn’t adolescents hacking at the trees, at least one of the culprits was a senior, almost as if ‘I’ve paid for a site so everything on it is mine to destroy’. We also fell foul of the ‘quiet time after 11 pm’ rule – to our neighbours that meant turn the music down a notch but continue to talk/shout at full volume.||Either have rules & enforce them or just remove them & accept there’ll be a free for all. We still enjoyed our stay – but it could have been so...
Read moreA campground with only 2 way service available at the sites. There is a dump station available. The WiFi is sketchy, when you book find out where the wifi antenna is relative to the site. Suggest that when you talk to the Parks Canada booking agent , you quizz the agent and make sure they are giving you a site close to the wifi antenna otherwise your stay will be without wifi service, …..but for some people maybe they can live without wifi! Also, We had been given site #69 and the power had the wrong polarity wiring! So we went to the gate office to ask to change to another site. The Parks person was not customer focused, it was like pulling teeth to get him to change us to another site that had power service that worked properly. We’ll he gave us site #37 , so we moved and when we tried to connect the power we had the same problem like on site #69. So bottom line is that I would recommend not booking a stay at this campground. I recommend booking somewhere else if you want to enjoy the full service that you’ve...
