You can tell from the pictures this is SUCH a beautiful park. Campsites are right on the edge of the beach, with water so clean and clear and surrounded by the mountains....WOW! Kilby museum and farm a short walk away was a special visit with my granddaughter and the cute little restaurant serves the BEST pie. The camp grounds and beach area were lovely and clean. As campers though we are use to more space between sites. We were so close to our neighbors that we heard and saw everything on both sides of us. Some way to create more privacy would be really nice. Trains role through what felt like hourly during the day and at least 3 time through the night and with the train bridge over the water right beside the park it is loud. If you book I would recommend trying to get a spot as far away from the day area as possible. The car traffic in and out and people walking through your campsite to get to the beach (like right between you and your camper, or actually sitting at your picnic table which has your water jug and table cloth on it, this happened twice!) at times were too much. I believe the sites at the other end of the campsite would be much quieter during the day. We'll be back and try a spot further away from the day use area. The proximity to the water and the beauty of this place is worth another try. To the park manager; some way to direct the flow of people traffic around the booked campsites near the day use area is really a must. The current system is just not working. Better signage, clear seperation of some kind (the small 6 inch high curbs just aren't doing the trick) I think would go a long way to making those 6 or so spots by the day use much nicer for the campers. Staff were very friendly...
Read moreGreat little park not too far from the city. They've added new concrete tables and what looks like a few more camping spots with improved fire rings, at least the sites near the entrance. One of the pics shows two staff guys who were carefully sweeping gravel off the table pads and washing the tops of all the tables! Be forewarned trains go by regularly but aren't that bad. The biggest surprise was the wind. We were here once before and it was fine, bad timing maybe. A little tree frog was flung from it's perch during the wind so we put it close to grass and trees on the calmer side. The beach is lovely and has a boat launch at the day use end with a fair bit of parking. Note, it is a river, things will float away at some point. My improvement requests would be to plant a few small trees/shrubs between the sites for more privacy, because they're set fairly close together, and update the outhouses at some point. They're not the worst I've seen but given they already have water, they could maybe install those flushable outhouses one day. Considering half these sites were flooded not long ago, it looks great and staff are around daily to get garbage and tidy up; very nice when I chatted to...
Read moreThe museum was wonderful and the beach itself is beautiful. Unfortunately we had a very disappointing experience dealing with the park staff. We rented a campsite to host my daughter's birthday party and had a few friends join us at our campsite. Due to more campsites being added parking for the beach is extremely limited so chances of finding a place to park is small, which was frustrating. Also a staff member became very angry yelling at myself and my husband for having more than 4 people on the campsite (everyone was calmly sitting or standing by the picnic table eating hotdogs and no alcohol or music was involved). I explained we were only staying for a couple hours in the afternoon even though we had paid for the spot and that the extra guests would not be camping overnight. It was not until I was almost in tears asking him to leave us alone in peace so my daughter could enjoy her birthday and had a friend come and tell him he needed to back off and have some sensitivity that he finally left us alone. We will not be returning to this campground and do not recommend it to anyone as the beauty of the beach is not worth being treated so poorly for a service one...
