I was with a group of 37 for 3 nights. Stayed in back section 93 with 4 rooms in white bldg with turquoise front door and a screen door. The hotel was so quiet as there were Airondack chairs and a kids area with blow up pool but there were only seniors staying here. There isn't any air conditioning as it is usually much cooler except when there was a heat wave last week so we slept with our screen door open and there was a fan. Take a box fan if you can for more air if the heat wave continues. Sat out on the deck overlooking the St Lawrence River at tables with umbrellas and walked down alot of steps to the highway where there is another section right on the water but it was being remodeled. This was how I grew up in the 1950's summer living as the furniture and bedspread was like my parents with screen windows and turquoise door and a screen door with a hook which we left open at night. There is a long walking trail with trees that was good for a morning or afternoon walk. You don't have to worry about being unsafe as there are no animals like in the States or anything a robber would want. The shower and toilet are tiny but the vanity was big enough. Nice TV and wide room which wasn't cramped. The meals were fabulous from breakfast, lunch and dinner and the desserts were too. I believe everything was made from scratch and the portions were large. If you can buy a package deal that includes meals I definately would. The waitresses were the friendliest and most efficient and will fill your water bottle up with ice to take with you . We got served within 10 minutes of ordering for every meal. After dinner, the DJ begins at 8p and most everyone stays until 11p as he plays oldies and line dancing songs so even the 80 year olds got up on the dance floor as our group was not shy about having a rocking good time and the DJ would take requests. Take a small flashlight with you to walk back to your room as it is dark to the bldgs by the parking area/park area. This was such a fun adventure as you take the ferry for 12 minutes to get off and on the island. So plan on getting in line at ferry about 45 minutes ahead of time. There are 1200 residents on the island year round so you become a minimalist. We saw many bicyclists on this...
Read moreOur brief visit to La Roche left us wanting to return and stay longer! We booked in for one night as a break in our travels between Quebec and Saguenay. The hotel was charming and the staff friendly and most helpful considering we arrived a bare 10 minutes before the dining room service ended (we missed the ferry & had to wait for next one). We quickly selected our meal and enjoyed a glass of wine until our meal arrived in very short order. That was a good thing as our older teens were very hungry. The food was piping hot and delicious. As we dined we noted a busload of seniors finishing their meal and going into the adjacent space for a karaoke night. The fellow running the karaoke could sing, and we had the benefit of his voice and music through our meal. Our room was in a separate building on the 2nd floor overlooking the St Lawrence. Beautifully finished in natural wood with a slightly 70's feel yet it was gracious and charming with a loveseat and two double beds. In the morning we stepped out onto the deck and were smitten by the beautiful view overlooking the furthest point on the eastern tip of the island. Down a long set of stairs to the flat, rocky outcrop, where the Olympic sized swimming pool and cabana were situated. Our travel itinerary did not allow us to linger and enjoy the pool, but next time we want to explore the island and sunbathe in that amazing setting. Our breakfast was sumptuous, and delicious. Our hosts were pleasant and we departed wishing we had a full day to spend...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I were supposed to stay here for our vacation. We booked a room but later changed our minds for another hotel off the island. My girlfriend had called back the next day after booking to cancel. They said there was no problem and confirmed that she would receive back the 100$ deposit she had payed since she called back way before the check in date. I was sitting close by and was able to hear every word through the phone. We received a call during our vacation from the hotel asking if we were still able to make it. We told them that we cancelled the day after booking and that they confirmed everything. She said it was a "no-show" even though everything was crystal clear during the cancellation. So during our vacation we find out that they made a mistake and did not reimburse the money. We had spent weeks calling back being patient and polite with them to fix the situation. They told us that they could not find the name or trace any proof that we had even booked to begin with even though we have a Visa statement confirming the deposit payment from them. Eventually they got more and more rude about it and would simply hang up on us instantly. We patiently tried to work with them and give them the opportunity to fix their mistake and make things right without any show of kindness and no...
