Management wanted more details? Very well, but remember, this is the company's hotel. No amount of polite or well meaning management can fix the issues that formed my opinion Remember that. It's still brand new, clean, bare bones, basic, and few amenities. And frankly , boring. That's my opinion. It's a boring hotel. There's no pool. There's no restaurant. There's no gym. There's no concierge. There's no room service. There's no art. There's no interior design. There's no complementary Internet, or at least it was busted. Now, i think my biggest problem was letting a travel agent book this for me. I would have never booked for the rates had I know what I was getting into. Perhaps the problem is that the online reviews are fake or misrepresenting the hotel?
So, there's a couple of tennis courts that nobody was using, or at least I saw them out the window. There was a strong smell of carpet adhesive in the hallways. The fire retardant insulation in the parking garage provided wonderful noise control, and I can honestly say that due to this alone, it was one of the most pleasant parking structures I've ever visited, and a good example of how to do underground parking structures (although I'm not sure the ventilation system was operational). There's also electric vehicle charging available, but I don't drive one, so this wasn't really all that useful for me, but had it been, it would have been handy, because the hotel is 30 minutes from virtually anywhere. Unless you want to visit any of the eating/drinking establishment on the campus. More on this later.
The walls are thin, and the two guys next door had quite a night drinking Guinness, which is a fine beer and all, but I wonder if they had to drive a half hour into Victoria to get it? Because there's very little in the area. And yes, I mean more like very little to bother with. There are restaurants, but the reviews of them paint a picture that matches what I expected in this fake, plastic grass community.
As for the pool and gym, I hear there's one next door, and I'd invite people to read the recent, post pandemic reviews before venturing inside. Some of the stuff is downright scary, and I think people even said there were discriminatory practices and a need to, and I quote, "Maintain a certain demographic" which..my dude. Why are more than a few people saying stuff like this?
On to walkability? Again, a half hour car ride. Unless you want the restaurant nearby, but we already talked about that, yelp it.
There's a hike across the way on some of the land that's yet to be ravaged and covered with plastic grass and it's got good views, so if you're outdoorsy, there's that one thing. It's a little bit narrow and scrabbly, but for the seasoned outdoor enthusiast, it's fine, and better than the treadmill. And lots of people walk their dogs along the long, lonesome featureless roads through the construction sites and future developments that lead to the outside world, just 30 minutes away. It's just so sad to see how the land was plunderer - and for this? It makes me sad
For what we paid, I was surprised to see where we ended up. I did let a travel agent book this, and it serves me right I suppose for not looking into this place more thoroughly and trusting reviews. I guess if you want to play golf it's fine. Golf isn't my thing.
Also, this is the FAIRWAY, not the FairMONT, don't make that spelling error, even if the prices are close. And a note to management - there's nothing that can be done on their part to help this place. It is what it is, and no amount of teamwork, synergy, going the extra mile, the customer is always right, and doing what's best for the company in every decision you make is going to help. Just take it one day at a time, and move on BEFORE you burn out. It's not worth it. There are so many beautiful places and people in BC that it's simply not worth compromising on your experiences and dignity.
Also apparently another guest was assaulted by someone in the hall with a hockey stick? I'm glad I left my honest opinions AFTER I...
Read moreDuring my 30-day stay, I visited this hotel three times, spending a total of six nights there while working with my team members. I like the hotel because it is clean and located in a peaceful area. However, we encountered several issues:
The manager, a gentleman who usually stands at the front desk in the morning, did not provide a welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask his name. The hotel promotes free coffee and muffins in the morning, which seems odd. The coffee machine is available all day and does not require daily refilling, yet the manager ordered the removal of the cups from the desk beside it, perhaps around noon (I never returned before 4 PM). As a result, guests cannot enjoy coffee, especially since there is no coffee shop or restaurant within the hotel. On one occasion, three of us were meeting friends, and we took an extra cup for one of them. The manager became upset and insisted that only one cup of coffee was allowed per person. Come on! It's unfair to be so stingy when we were paying over $300 per night to stay there and received no additional services, aside from two packets of coffee in the room. If they are that unwilling to provide guests with free amenities, they should reconsider their business model.
Although you can book a room online, the price remains the same for 2, 3, or 4 people in one room, since the rooms have two queen beds. They do not offer any additional services for extra guests, such as extra cups, towels, or coffee. We originally booked the room for two, but one of our teammates decided to stay with us. We were charged an additional $50 for this extra guest. When I inquired during my next visit why this was the case, the same gentleman explained that the first time we booked through the hotel website, but the second time was through Stash (the hotel points system). I did not book my rooms through a third party!
For anyone reading this, I advise against booking your room directly through their website. Despite frequently offering a 25% discount, it’s better to use third-party websites or Stash for your reservations.
During our last visit, we had to ask for muffins that were supposed to be provided every morning. They removed the muffin basket at 9:30 AM—unbelievably cheap management!
This hotel is the closest option to our work location. Otherwise, I would not return.
I always use Google Reviews for my stays and the services I require, and my reviews have been seen over 10 million times. I rarely leave a negative review unless I believe that others should be aware of the situation or the manager or owner needs to hear it. I allowed the hotel to rectify these concerns, but they did not...
Read moreVery nice hotel. Service was terrible. When I phoned and booked a room, they immediately charged my credit card, I had not agreed to this. When reviewing my statement I noticed this and called. They told me I "agreed" to this. NO I DIDN'T! Why would I? Checking in: I asked about parking, underground secure parking but charged me $10.00 per night. I had no other choice the "gravel parking lot was over a kilometer away" in the pouring rain. The underground parking had 6-8 cars in it. Night 1: I was looking for a soda, thought there must be a very over priced diet coke with my name on it somewhere in the hotel. I find a vending machine only to find it empty, asking the desk clerk he directs me to a different one only to find it empty as well. I ask the desk clerk only to get an excuse that it is not his job to fill them but a 3rd party. Night 2: My room was filled with the smell of marijuana, I do not partake and gives me a blinding headache. I called the front desk and get a long excuse that the rooms on either side of me are empty so I can't be smelling marijuana. The desk clerk argued with me for some time over this. Check out: I take my key to the desk. The desk clerk has the audacity to ask if it is ok to charge my credit card on file. I tell her my credit card had been charged over a month prior and the only charge that should be charged was the parking fee of $20.00 and that had been charged at 2:08am and a reciept emailed to me already. Absolutely no room service. The excuse used for this is Covid, covid risk was extremely low during my stay. This is just a excuse to not pay staff. For a room that cost $250.00 per night I expect maid service. No breakfast included. Very nice bathroom and comfortable beds. This is the hotel of excuses of why their service sucks but you pay top dollar for nothing. In response to the "manager" comment. Now I understand why your staff is as rude and unprofessional as they are, you have taught them that way. They and you lie. This hotel and staff take no responsibly for their horrendous service and treatment of guest. DON'T...
