Beautiful location, BUT ....
Recently spent one night of the August long weekend here.
Booked online, with a reservation. Pricing was VERY high - easily double of what we paid at any other campsite, although it's true, that this was the Sunday night of long weekend (which is why I took it; one of the few sites with spots left).
Road up to the site was an adventure! Long, rocky logging road, which is well used. Bumpy enough that the wife's Fit Bit recorded 1500 extra steps just jouncing over the road. Not a deal-breaker (was actually kind of fun), but something to be aware of.
Got there to discover that the site manger had no record of our reservation. Still, he managed to find us an alternate open site - so, worrisome, but not a disaster.
Location itself is very beautiful. Well wooded with well established trees, and the lake is stunning.
Site itself is "rustic", meaning pack everything in & pack everything out. We were aware of that going in, and had prepared accordingly, so no issue there.
Site was an acceptable size, and had a tenting platform - which was perfect as we were tenting it. Standard picnic table and fire ring as well. I don't know if firewood was purchasable, as we brought our own.
Pit toilets are well distributed, decently maintained, and have LED Christmas lights to provide some illumination, and act as a beacon in the middle of the night.
Onsite loop road was pretty dusty - but the amount of rainfall isn't in the control of site management.
Biggest drawback was the site clientele. Campground was crowded, the dock was scattered with personal gear (towels, life jackets, lawn chairs complete with abandoned beer cans and cigarette butts, etc.), and there was a lot of noisy quad-runner traffic on the trails surrounding the campground. Both flanking tent sites (and at least one other) were host to long-weekend drunken bouts of "Frisbee soccer" with tons of screaming and yelling, and loud music.
Once quiet time was enforced, it was actually a pretty pleasant evening. Sounds of wildlife in the middle of the night (I believe a couple of Elk discussing territorial disputes), but otherwise pleasant middle-of-nature dead quiet.
All-in-all a descent site, with a ton of natural beauty, a well out of the way deep woods feel, and awesome views - provided you can brave the roads.
However - the high pricing for online booking, and the behavior of the clientele that use the site make it unlikely that...
Read moreMy friends & I had the best time camping at Sayres lake. We got there on a Thursday morning and got to choose our campsite but it got busier over the next couple of days so I definitely recommend getting there early. The campsites have tent pads and a decent amount of privacy. The lake was spectacular, so clear, clean, and warm! We had a blast jumping off the docks and floating around. There is not much in the way of beaches, but there are small ones for lakeside campsites however those are very close to the very loud frogs at night. The campground hosts Wilf and Linda were so sweet and definitely care about their campground and campers. They supervise to ensure everyone is following the rules and also give kids rides in their golf cart which is a hit! Definitely keep food & garbage locked in your cars as the bears are smart enough to identify a cooler & open car handles but we had no issues! Overall I am so impressed with this campground and can’t...
Read moreA beautiful place to camp! Closest place to home that really feels like I'm in the bush; away from civilization. It's only about an hour's drive from White Rock/South Surrey.
A gorgeous lake, spaceous campsites, fire barrels with a half grate ontop, and even tent pads so you don't feel rocks beneath your tent. There is limited public parking, but I just pay the $2 fee for an extra car in the site when reserving online. When the weather is warm, I suggest going for a swim over to the submerged tree just off to the left when standing on the pier facing the water. It's set up to jump off of, if you're brave enough to climb! Take goggles and fins if you have them!
It is a road not recommended for most cars. The gravel is very loose and there are large rocks and deep holes that could bottom out your vehicle. However, I have seen a Honda Prelude up there before so I can't really make the...
