For the first time in ages and due to the pandemic, our summer holiday plan resulted in my wife and I exploring Ontario, which included an awesome week long stay at this property.||||True to their website and previous reviews we had read, this place ticked all the boxes and then some. We stayed in cabin #7 (aka The Starling) which was a 2 bedroom cottage.||||This property really adhered to the Covid-19 situation with ample safety measures in place throughout the cabin and grounds. The information binder provided within the cottage was extremely informative and helpful. The cottage itself was very well equipped throughout, in terms of kitchenware, cleaning supplies, toiletries and furniture.||||As mentioned by others, there were kayaks, canoes and s'ups to use which were included and always readily available. The above ground pool was a decent size and came in handy for a refreshing dip, if not in the river itself. The grounds were well maintained with ample space to move around. Located in the office were a decent selection of board games, books and dvd's for guests to use.||||We especially liked the quiet and private feel of the property which only added to a relaxing week. The individual fire pits were a nice added bonus. Approximately 2 kms down the road is Morrison Point Farm which sells delicious honey and firewood. The town of Picton was only a 12-15 minute drive away if you needed anything. ||||It was a pleasure to meet and chat with Cindy who was extremely helpful in providing information about the property. ||||The only minor negatives we experienced were not being able to keep the sliding door to the deck open as there was no screen door. To be fair, Cindy did explain they had an on going problem of the screens being damaged by previous guests which I can't fault the property for but rather, perhaps guests could be a little more respectful when opening and closing them, as you would expect in your own home.||||Additionally, an outside broom to combat the consistent cobweb build up would have been nice as some parts were pretty bad and finally, replace any burnt out/missing light bulbs as we had at least 3 missing from the living room lamps. ||||Overall, we had such a great time that we're considering a Christmas visit as well as for next summer! Thanks again Black River...
Read moreWe recently spent 4 days at Black River Cottages to celebrate a family reunion and birthday. From the very first contact with Noelene we knew this was going to be a special place and we weren't disappointed. Everything was exactly as described on the website. The cottages were lovely, clean comfortable and very well equipped. The setting was peaceful and serene and provided us with the perfect place to celebrate our time together. ||||In all we rented 7 cottages with members ranging in age from 1 to 80. There was something for everyone and the kids just had a terrific time. Every family member that stayed gave rave reviews of Black River cottages and we are all hoping that we can make this an annual retreat. ||||Both owners and staff of Black River cottages are amazing. They were most accommodating to our needs, responsive and absolutely lovely to deal with.||||The only comment we have for improvements would be the check in / check out times, particularly the latter. For family with kids 10:00 is early to try and get packed, clean the cottage, feed the little ones etc Even extending that by 1 hour...

Everything you need is at your fingertips, making you feel completely at home.||The property offers vast open spaces, perfect for large groups. With 6 of us, we played various games and enjoyed quiet time on the deck simultaneously. The view of the Black River and the beautiful trees along its banks are breathtaking!||The well-stocked storage shed has plenty of life jackets, paddles, and bike helmets. ||Just 20 feet off Cabin 7's deck, there are also ample canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and bikes available. These cottages are well-spaced on a large rolling meadow, featuring private fire pits, a new heated above-ground pool and fantastic kids playground we also could not get pelham off the Zipline.||June brought bike riders and wine tourists.
