I have just returned from my first two-night getaway to the Owl's Nest Suites, and it was the PERFECT place to tune out the world and tune into myself. I am already figuring out how many weeks I need to wait before I can reasonably book another stay! :-)||Janna was an excellent host, answering my questions before I arrived about the suites and the status of the trails (for those interested, the trails were open but muddy - rain boots needed!); and during my stay, she and Jake were available by text or phone, but never intrusive. They live on the property with their kids (so they have plenty to do!); and the suites themselves are self-catering, so there are no check in desks, cleaning services, etc. to interrupt the peace and quiet.||I stayed in Suite B, which is one of two suites in a "carriage house" separate from the main property. The straw bale construction keeps the suite astonishingly quiet and comfortably warm. The solidity, silence and simple comfort of the space was the first thing that struck me about the suite when I entered, and I continued to notice how quiet and comfortable the entire space was throughout my stay. The bed is luxurious, while the kitchenette and bathroom facilities are simple but very functional. One note - there is no microwave or dishwasher, but the kitchenette has a stove-top burner, toaster oven, mini-fridge, electric kettle and french press - as well as the necessary pots, pans, dishes, etc. that you'd expect. One treat that I didn't expect was the super-comfy slippers (there were one large and one medium-sized pair provided). I practically lived in them during my stay.||The property itself is lovely, with some short, easy walking trails (took me maybe 10 min. to stroll the full circuit) encompassing a fire pit, pond, lilac walk, field and forested area. There look to be several comfortable outdoor seating areas - including one outside the door to the suite, and another by the pond - which I look forward to trying out on a future stay. There are also free-roaming chickens wandering about adding a bit of beautiful colour and rural activity to the landscape. They liked to hang out outside the window to my suite, and I found it very entertaining to watch them scratch about for 15-20 min until they moved on. The two dogs on the property are friendly (I met one, and he was an absolute Love!), but I understand Janna and Jake have measures in place to manage the dogs if any guests would prefer not to interact with them.||To wrap up, I spent a delicious two days simply lounging about in my suite, having naps, reading books, taking the occasional walk in the fresh air, and simply getting re-acquainted with myself. It....
Read moreI loved this place! This place provides away-from-the-city, home in the nature experience. I loved the overall antique and cozy atmosphere of the place, with nice attention to details, like the antique design of plates and cups, and the handmade wall tiles in bathrooms and kitchen. If you want to do a fair bit of cooking during your stay, you might want to book the Master Suite, as kitchen and fridge would be more spacious. But I stayed in Suite A and did a full meal dinner and breakfast cooking, and got around it fine, since the kitchenette is fully equipped with countertop toaster oven and electric double burners. Just want to comment on the water, because I feel like that’s what might have deterred me from coming to this place if I read the reviews first. If you’re from the metropolitan part of the city, you might feel water to be a bit unfamiliar at first (like the general feel of the water, nothing unpleasant though), but the water’s just fine. I have eczema, so I’m sensitive to many things, but I had no flare up or reaction the whole time I stayed in this place (I think my eczema actually got better during the stay). My favorite part - all the walking you can do at this place. If you walk around all the paths and field around Owl’s nest, you can have a good 10 minute stroll and...
Read moreWe spent the weekend in Price Edward County to enjoy the beaches and check out the vineyard/brewery scene. Owl's Nest is very charming. Beautiful property owned by the loveliest couple, who also own 2 friendly dogs who regularly walk around the property. Slippers (shown in my photos) walked around with us in the area and occasionally visited us at our doorstep for pats and boops (you have to be a dog lover, and a shame if you're not!). The room we stayed in was more of a cottage-type home rather than a 'suite'. ||The owner was very pleasant, she provided us with instructional guides to accustom ourselves with the area and what to expect when we arrive. She also provided us with suggestions on areas to visit. Rooms available are limited (our room faced only another one), so you can be sure of a quiet stay without the usual crowds of vacation-goers.||||The location is about 13-15 minutes from some interesting vineyards and also a distillery (Kinsip), and roughly a 20-30 minutes drive from small towns.||||We very much enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone who likes to seclude themselves in a charming little cottage away from the...
