This was the worst experience. We are cycling across Canada and are supposed to be staying here tonight. I called yesterday to ask if the restaurant was open and they weirdly kept pestering me about my booking details. Then when I provided them, they said they had no record. This was really confusing as we had booked and they had already charged our credit card.
I understand that mistakes happen but this is what really upset me.
They obviously knew there were booking problems but they hadn't bothered to contact us. They were just going to let us show up and then tell us they had no room. We would have cycled 140k from Winnipeg in the heat and there are no other hotels with free spots within 50k of there.
They were really rude. They said it was our fault for booking through a third party site like Expedia. I'm not sure how this would be on us. I didn't force them to sign up with Expedia. Moreover, they had it wrong and we'd directly booked with them, they had processed our payment more than a month ago. They were totally unsympathetic to our plight as cyclists who have to be in Kenora on Sunday evening.
So the current situation is that our plans are completely messed up. It's too far to cycle to Kenora in one day and there is nowhere to stay in between. They also still have our money last time I checked.
Thanks for nothing, Cedar...

I get these things happen but the very least the owner should have provided was an apology for the mix-up. Instead, he immediately blamed the 3rd parties who handle bookings for him and said I was lucky that they still had vacancy. In retrospect, I would have gladly accepted a refund and continued driving for another hour. Property adequate but not for what was charged. Also, restaurant closed for a private function. This would have been nice to know, given that dining/food options very limited in this area. All in all, an...
Read moreA friend and I did a quick girl's trip to Manitoba and wanted to stay near Whiteshell Provincial Park without staying IN the park to save money. We found Cedar Creak Resort and were so pleasantly pleased with our stay! Our host Sandra was so kind and fun! She was willing to help us out with getting our park pass after hours. She offered to cook us food (we had brought our own) and just was a joy! We spent most of the days playing in the park, but we both slept great in our room and loved our little deck and BBQ in the back! We will most definitely be back and will tell all our American friends to come stay...
